What are the EASIEST weapons
We have plenty of threads dedicated to whichever weapons do the most damage (Bow, HBG, GS in certain circumstances), but I thought it might be interesting to get your opinion on what the easiest weapons to use are, maybe even try to rank them in order.

For me, I think Bow is by far the easiest. Just point and shoot, no weird combos or perfect timings required. Bowguns (both heavy and light) are easy in theory, but setting them up right and knowing which ammo to use and build for is pretty complicated. Just spamming (rapid) thunder ammo on kulve though is literally the easiest thing in the game.

For fourth place I'd actually put hunting horn. It looks a little intimidating to start with, but you generally only worry about one or two song combos, and all the inputs are really easy. The attacks have good reach, super armor, and aren't extraordinarily slow, so it's really just a weapon to go smack monsters around and not worry too much about weapon mechanics or timing.

The next three I think would be Lance, Longsword, and Dualswords. Lance and Longsword require some pretty good defensive timings to use optimally, but they are quick on attack so you still don't worry too much about openings, and their combos are very simple to input. DS I haven't actually used much but they seem extremely straightforward as well, just run up and spam, though they start getting a little bit more complicated combo-wise.

The hardest weapons in my opinion are the Gunlance and Charge Blade. Both are extremely slow and have a huge number of mechanics to deal with. Charge Blade is probably the absolute worst.

LBG and lance, without any doubt.
And I think SA is harder than GL.

I would say longsword is very hard to use because in 431 hours of this game I have yet to encounter a longsword player that can position without tripping EVERYONE with it's wide reaching attacks.

It's not their fault you aren't using flinch free.

GS, Lance, and DB were all extremely easy to get a handle on.

GS is one of the hardest weapons in the game. Actually landing TCS AT ALL requires complete mastery of the fight and the weapon, doing it consistently is hard to even imagine.

For you, maybe. I did not find GS to be difficult. I'm not insulting GS users, I just "get" the weapon, I guess.

By what metric are you deciding a weapon is "easy?" If it's just your personal opinion then results are gonna be all over the place. Some ppl find it easy to master foresight on LS and some find it hard. Same with GS, some ppl will really take to the slower and more methodical timing needed to use TCS.

Bow is easiest imo. Standing at a "safe" distance pointing at a weakspot with a great dodge.

DB is also easy. U have to stand close to the monster, but u only got one move that really locks u into place. U can dish in and out of combat really quick and keeping up demon and arch demon mode is easy.

Havent played with lance, but it looks easy and rather safe.

Longsword is also really easy. Great reach and damage. Foresight slash just takes the cake, its available after any hit or miss and has a bunch of i-frames compared to all other dodge moves.

Switch axe is probably one of the hardest weapons to get the most out of. The moveset is easy, but staying on the offense takes great timing and positioning the entire time.

Charge Blade probably has the highest skill ceiling out of all the weapons.

Imo.

It's all opinion (unlike "best damage"), but that doesn't mean we can't discuss it and try to convince people otherwise

Well you could instead boil it down to mechanical difficulty. Things like number of moves and types of mechanics (charge, timing, mode, etc.) With that you could classify certain weapons as "harder/easier" than others even if your or other ppls personal experience might differ.

People think SA is hardest? Thats surprising.
Imo LS is easiest

Hmm. Seems like just a matter of preference to me. Glaive is a very active weapon, but it's "easy to use" though imo. Same with SNS. I immediately got used to using both within just a couple days of use. A lot of people say bow and dual blades are super easy to use. I find them kinda awkward honestly.

Mhm.. that kinda hard to answer.

If we asume someone with a good amount of MH experience I think you list is somewhat fine.
Although HBG is the total opposite of easy. You learn better those monsters movements or you're doing nothing but screaming for cats!

If we'd list the weapons based how a complete newbie would perform on them I'm not so sure.
I.e. A newbie on bow/bowgun will die to pretty much everything.
I'd feel alot better giving this poor guy a lance or DBs first. ^^'

But now matter how we look at it CB will always top the list since it's basicly unplayable without good guy google around. xD

All weapons are tricky. For me, the hardest thing to master as you use a weapon is 'positioning' yourself during the battle, but in my opinion these are the ones that you could master faster (again, this may change a lot from player to player). From easier to hardest, here it goes.

Top Easiest

01- Long Sword
02- Sword and Shield
03- Hammer
04- Greatsword
05- Bow
06- Dual Blades
07- Light Bowgun
08- Lance
09- Gunlance
10- SwitchAxe
11- Charge Blade
12- Heavy Bowgun
13- Insect Glaive
14- Hunting Horn

Top Hardest

For me, the horn is very hard to master and play well efficiently because you need to time every single attack with the song that you need the most while avoid getting hit and at the same time keep your eyes open in every teammate that might need help with heals or other things.

I do a poor job at using it, but have seen players do wonders.

Gunlance is pretty easy to use a shelling build. You can do a lot of damage as well, with a very low skill ceiling. It's literally poke => shoot x3, reload repeat. And positioning for weak points is optional, because most of your damage will be from the shells that ignores defenses. You don't need to memorize any crazy combos of buttons or setups, just poke and shoot from the best, or safest angle you can, while blocking attacks.
Wide GL is the easiest one to use, but still you need to deal with low mobility and choosing when to reload safely. The other styles have moves or combos with big startup or recovery that will leave you open for days. And wyrmstake... you basically have to accept you're gonna get hit.

(Also who the hell thought that pressing B after a hop should make you reload? I can't even start telling how dumb that is)
