Critique: Diablos, Raw Damage Build
Hey, not sure who may or may not be interested. I have a build I've been working on for quite a while, and am nearly finished in obtaining all parts, and wanted some advice on how to make it better. Here it is:
http://mhworld.tabletopgeeks.com/?build=9||7|0|0|0|2|5|0||119|56|69|0||87|6|6|0||87|6|6|83||85|19|19|0||104|40|83|0||42|

The build is trying to have as much Raw attack as possible, while counteracting the Affinity loss. Im doing Vaal Hazak because:
A) I like the look of it
B) It lets me get Peak Performance (+20 Attack) and keep it up a lot easier
C) Has loads of gem slots

I tend to use a lot of different weapons when I play (About 6-8 actually), so doing specific skills such as Artillery, Power Prolonger, etc. don't interest me, and I don't feel like having a different loadout for every weapon I use.

If you think its perfect, great! Let me know. If you think it's horrible at the task it is designed to do, or needs some tweaks, let me know as well. Thanks.

You should really try building around artillery 3 + weakness exploit + capacity up on any CB build or you're going to get absolutely outclassed by other weapons DPS wise. Looks good apart from that.

Im aware of Artillery and Capacity Up. Again, I use a lot of different weapons when I play, and I dont want to make loadouts for every single one I use. But thank you for the help. Not sure if I can really fit in Weakness Exploit. Id rather guarantee that I won't Crit Fail on all parts of a monster then get some decent chances to Crit succeed.

Maybe try to get Weakness Exploit 3?

It is a rather good way to get affinity since it does appear in some armor pieces and at most cost 3 lvl 2 slots.

Level 3 gets you 50 affinity on weakspot which you will naturally be going for anywau since non-weakspots give low damage in any case.

Sorry I have to ask,

But why limit yourself and handicap yourself at the same time?

Since you can save loadouts with 2 button presses and rearm them with 2 from inside the tent or your box.

Raw damage has diminishing returns in MHW. With a CB with such a huge base raw as Tyrannis you'll get more damage off with Weakness Exploit 3 rather than with Peak Performance.
You're also lacking all the basic CB skills (Artillery, Focus, Capacity Boost, Guard), which means you aren't making any good use of the phials at all. So the set ends up having both poor attack damage and poor phials damage. You're better off playing another CB or an entirely different weapon at this point.

P.S. I recommend to use this site next time, it's much easier to read and you can immediately tell the average damage output of your set:

@Mhblis, because I don't want to design a set (That looks good aesthetically to me) and obtain all the gems needed for all the weapons I use. Thats, at the very least, 6 different builds I would have to make. I want a general build that can work with nearly all weapons. Its not about ease of switching them, its the difficulty of making all of them.
@MoonMadness, thanks for the tip regarding Weakness Exploit, and the other "Create a build" site. I'll see if I can forgo Peak Perfromance and go Weakness Exploit. Only reason I like Raw damage is because I can ignore a monster's resistances no matter what I'm fighting. From the math I read having Diablos weapons with Non-Element Boost does have higher attack then Deviljho weapons. Granted, if Dragon Attack skills are included it get's beaten out.
Blos weapons usually do deal more damage per hit than Jho weapons when fully optimized, but in the long run they are not very convenient because they will have less white sharpness. And in fact as long as the monster isn't totally immune to dragon Jho weapons will deal as much or slightly more damage than Blos weapons.
This whole discussion doesn't matter for CB however, since no impact CB can beat the Blos one.

Once you have a load out set you can switch quickly unless your talking about putting it together and registering it that is the hassle?

Its the designing the build: making sure it has good skills and looks nice, then going out and getting the parts that is the hastle. For one weapon you plan to use its fine. But I have to design and obtain mats for armor for 6 different weapons. No thanks.

You could always try to lean on layered armor to make it look good and still go for skills you want.

"looks at 19 pages worth of armor, and weaponry" ...size matters.

Jokes aside - the best sets are always mixed (sadly). "I want the best" this is what you should shoot for.." But i want the best from this one chest..this one helm..this one..." o.0 For a dwarf, you don't seem too proud of your armor.

Only the raw damage of weapon itself (HH atl buffs and attack augument included) will increase damage of impact phials with full bonus, everything else (like food buff, demondrug, seeds/pills, skills like ATK boost and PP) will work with half strength. PP will give you 20 raw for your melee hits and only 10 for phials.

Are you mostly wanting the look of Vaal Hazak and have good skills for a variety of weapons? It honestly isn't too hard to prepare builds for different weapons. You will have a lot of overlap between weapons. Layered armor helps too if you want a consistent look. Some things to note about your build. If you focus more on the phial attacks, they aren't affected by affinity. The problem with making a one for all build is you aren't playing to your weapons strength. If you're just fighting basic easy monsters you're fine but you really should have better builds for certain situations so you aren't dragging the fight on. I would think you would save yourself time overall just making more builds that work better.

Ugh, christ. Alright. I'll look for builds for each of these weapons (Charge Blade, Bow, Lance, Longsword, Hammer, Switch Axe, Insect Glaive, Gunlance) then. This will take a freaking eternity.

Monster Hunter has never had a one set fits all. In padt games you needed multiple weapons of the same type ie and sets because you had to actually prepare for each hunt. World has changed that a little bit.

The only real way to achieve it easily is to

1. Not use a CB. Its a weapon that requires skills that other weapons have no use for.

2. Metahemoth.

Using the Metahomth setup you can easily switch between SA, LS, raw SnS, IG and hammer. You could even get away with GS and evade lancing.

The big majority of the CB damage does come its phials. And its those skills people are saying you are missing.

Now if you arent driving for optimal times and are like me and just enjoy the hunts its not too much of a deal breaker. But with the CB its a noteable improvment in damage and hunt time.

-------

For me part of the fun is making the sets and gathtering the materials. I currently like the metahemoth and beetle helm look. But previously i didnt and as such build sets for each weapon.

Material farming isnt really a problem at all. You do it naturally by just playing the game.

------

Just a word on the decos. You are going to be farming them anyways. Its most of what the end game gathering is about.

But you only do it ones. Its not like each set needs its own set. They can be resrranged at will.

And if you save the loadouts when you change gear in the tent in a hunt the deco change for you as well.
