50 hits of white - ends up being 4 hits for a tcs combo right? So you'll be down 4 hits worth. Basically..better way...
It makes the white period longer..doesn't prolong drops...there are other skills that make the drops slower/prolong it a bit. And i think whetfish + has something like protective polish?
(Ideally i'd say you want at least 20-30 hits worth).
Basically, a weapon has a hidden sharpness portion that requires Handicraft to unlock. Higher Handicraft levels unlock more of this hidden sharpness. How much white sharpness a weapon has also depends on the weapon.
So if you use Handicraft just to get to the white sharpness and you see only a tiny bit of it, then you aren't going to stay in white for more than around ~10 hits.
1 point of handicraft = 10 hits. This is why fast hitting weapons like dual blades/insect glaive lose sharpness rapidly due to the high attack speed.
If the sharpness bar is full it will not increase it further.
If the sharpness bar is not full it will add 10 hits per point. This can upgrade sharpness to the next level for some weapons but not for all. The maximum sharpness is specific to each weapon. Some can reach white, some can only reach blue. There's probably some low level weapons have lower max sharpness but I'm assuming you're talking about endgame weapons here.
Skills like protective polish and masters touch can combine well with handicraft to help make those extra hits last much longer.
The minimum sharpness you want is at least enough to make the monster retreat to the next area without needing to sharpen. The max amount is enough to kill it without sharpening at all.
More realistically you should get at least the minimum then once you have all the important skills you need in your build (attack 4, wex 3 etc) use whatever slots are left to add in as much handicraft as you can.
