Do it now so you'll get the Thunderproof Mantle for your future Kirin encounters.

The first Kirin is not really hard. Just use an armor with lightning resistance and eat veggies to get even more resistance. Stun and Paralysis resistances are also very useful against Kirin.

On the note of kirin, bring a gun (or a bow, but i prefer guns). Be mobile. Don't worry about "my dps" or whatnot, all the moves or choreographed, and white lines on the ground is where lightning will go.
Aim for the head, he does topple. And don't be greedy.

Or you could just easy mode it - and pop an sos flare..

Try to mount it. It helps a lot and gives nice large opening for some combos when it will be on the ground.

Hammers do wonder against horse boi. I did it with CB but forget it you die the second you load phials.

Bow is safe too.

Fire hammer. Aim for 20 thunder resistance (with the food bonus) which will allow you to avoid the blight effect entirely on top of reducing thunder damage. Kirin's physical damage is weak. The hammer and its Blanka cannonball is excellent for mounting at the sloped area near the second camp which is where you can usually start the fight.

hit the horn, everything else may as well be a 0 and TINK bounce back.

dont be greedy, his hp is low enough as is, the way to play is hit and run and wait for while hes doing his walking strut to go in, get a quick hit, get out.

if you go for the hit and run strategy any weapon can be used.

mounting does wonders, spam it.

do all that and you have yourself a 8-15minute hunt which will improve with more experience.

itemize for lightning resist and stun resist. 3x thunder res gems, L res food buff, 3x stun resist and you're good to go,

people say lightning mantle but its not that helpful unless you're getting hit a lot by lightning. but from experience, its still a 2shot, the mantle does NOT change much between 2/3 shot and dead. gems and food buff is more than enough to cover the res (unless you're already starting at like -15 or something)

Honestly the only things to know is:

1. Take it slow and careful.
2. Thunder Resist of at least 20 after all your buffs.

When its armor is up its only weak point is going to be his head. Unless you have a weapon or skill that prevents you from bouncing you will bounce on anything but the head at this stage. You can try and seal him and remove his armor by chucking dragonpods at his head (he occasionally drops them) or using an elder seal weapon on him. I also reccomend giving an elder seal weapon to your cat if you plan on soloing him. Its common practice to bring thunderproof and vitality mantles once you're in high rank and save them for his enraged armor stage, since his lightning attacks get much more ferocious while he's enraged.

Another trick: bring bombs and materials for more bombs, give cat sleeping weapon - and bomb it when it fall asleep.
