you do, but only for the "last" hit, all damage done still is taken away from her hp, the thing is: she won't go down to 0 hp until you hit her horns at the end.

so just do a lot of damage and poke the horns when you can.

Damage to the body does not contribute to the horn's hp, so yes if you are a ranged user try to only hit the horns unless you're going for a status in the meanwhile like sleep or paralysis.

Guy in this video lowered Kulve Taroth's HP to 1 and hitting the horns didn't break them off. The horns have their own HP value that you'll have to whittle down.

(scene is at 2:03)

Yes, you need to hit the horns. You can hit other parts to break them too but to end the match, you must deal 45,000 damage to the horns (at Pursuit level 1).

The higher the Pursuit level, the less damage you need. I heard Pursuit level 2 is half of Pursuit level 1 and level 3 is half of level 2 and so on.

Kulve Taroth is mainly about getting enough points to up your reward level so you don't necessarily have to be in the team to break the horns to get the rewards too.
In stages 1 to 3, once the gold plating is off (or at P3+, once the horns are chipped), you should hit ANYTHING but the horns.
In stage 4, you should hit ONLY the horns (and the tail if you want to break it).

It's still best to hit the horns regardless since you deal much more damage there than the other parts of its body (when the gold is off, of course).
