SnS vs HH for widerange* builds
If we don't consider subjective aspects such as finding one weapon more fun than the other, isn't every weapon inferior to HH if the build includes the Widerange package?
Reason I pointed SnS out in title is because that's the that weapon I see with widerange more often than any other weapon.

SnS fast sheathe and ability to use item unsheathed makes it the best wide range user though. HH sheathe is pretty slow so its not the best for building solely on wide range.
If you have wide range as an extra skill, then any weapon works as its just an extra.

Well the reason people use SnS wide-range is the ability to use items unsheathed, so its faster than having to sheath the HH, then draw it back out to attack again. That being said....I still like my W-R HH build. Glory to the DOOT-DOOT Stick!!!!!!

I've played both extensively. My HH build has Free Meal 3, Speed Eating 3, Wide Range 5, Earplugs 4 and Quick Sheath 2. So, my sheathing is pretty quick for a HH. Add to that, the ability to do ATKup XL, DEFup XL, Stamina up, Wind null ect while spamming Mega Potions, Might Pills and Adamant Pills and you have a formula to make a team almost unkillable... ALMOST......

I'll take HH any day over SnS.

Is earplugs 4 enough when you are just responding to SOS? Which monsters do you switch in EP5?
And what HH do you like currently

SnS can nom for days with weapon out, slinger burst flinch at any point, and mount like a pro as well as make pods for everyone else to use (for the moment. i think thats gonna change.)

HH can buff for days and play heal songs if it has them, stack buffs on buffs between its notes and items consumed. has to sheath for items which can be the difference between someone living or dying. can also KO and exhaust monsters quite easily and has natural minds eye. cannot block things.

honestly as long as you take into consideration the drawbacks either is good if used correctly. heck before IB i ran a IG wide range set even. heal clouds + item heals + health smoker = super easy AT vaal fights.

SnS of course, why would HH be any different than any other weapon when using wide range?

SnS

You can make Wide-Range work on a Hunting Horn, but then you're generalising too much in my opinion. Take one, or the other. Sword and Shield is naturally the best weapon for Wide-Range due to its special characteristics, of course. Hunting Horn is slow, relies on longish combos, near constant attacking to keep songs up, has a longer sheathe speed, etc.

Unless you've been using a Hunting Horn + Wide-Range set and you're perfectly in tune with it, I just feel like trying to use both at once will be mega inefficient and you'll do neither as well as you could. Hunting Horn is support, Wide-Range is support, you'd think they'd go together hand-in-hand, but it's not usually the case against monsters where it matters. At least in my experience.

Go SnS! Steal the show, and then some!
Well considering HH has some other things it's probably doing and some long lasting animations SnS is definitely better and you're gonna want some Quick Sheath too if you use it on some other weapons that don't have a fast sheath speed.

I play wide range with both SnS and HH. Sheathing is not a problem for either while still outputting damage and supporting. Support is more about pre-emptive preparation than anything.
However, I find one better than the other depending on the monster.

For example: AT Nergigante, Lunastra or Behemoth? SnS is better.
Leshen and everything else pre-Iceborne? Hunting Horn.
Fast moving jumping monsters in Iceborne (looking at Barioth)? SnS.
Shara, Velkhana and the rest? Definitely hunting horn in a party.

I'll be frank, I don't like WR on my HH builds. You end up sacrificing too much damage for support imo, and I don't like that. I don't ever use fulll agro builds either (generally use comfy builds which are like 90% damage 10% survive), but imo WR sacrfices too much damage on HH because of HH playstyle. Even with quicksheath (not to mention adding quicksheath is more skills you could spend on some extra damage), you still need to sheath to heal, which is still a time delay that might not be enough to save some people, as opposed to SnS just heal even with weapon out. Not only that, but if you team is constantly being bad, you need to waste more time sheathing and healing without contributing much damage. At least with SnS, you can still get some slices inbetween (as long as you don't commit for aerial, but then again a mount can control the situation). Anyways, I'm not against others using it, but I don't like that it's a popularized build. Hunts in iceborne take long enough as it is without one of the four players gimping their own damage.
