Cutting of tails with Bow.

Looking for updated info for this. When I check the internet, every info about this is 2 years old.

Dragon pierce is the only skill that can cut of tail right? What kind of tips can you give me for this. I had no issue with melee but with bow its super hard in mr. Bosses in MR doesn't even let you cast dragon pierce easily.

Seriously.
Just go back to the tent, grab a LongSword or GreatSword to finish the job.

If you insist on using bow, your best attack would be the clutch claw weapon attack at the tail.

That and also when you melee them with your bow. Or could just switch to a sharp weapon just to get the tail then switch back

Apparently you can use the zombie bite emote to deal sever damage. I am a bow main and get rewards from "severing the tail" all the time when solo, as long as you break the tail it seems to give you (at least some of) the same rewards as severing the tail. YMMV

I simply run investigations with a lot of boxes or join multiplayer sessions if I’m looking for a tail part. Otherwise, I just ignore breaking tails.

The shotgun slinger bow move can also cut tails, I managed to cut two times but I have no idea if it's dependent on the type of slinger ammo

Also I am not sure if the grapple tenderizing attack can cut tails I managed once but I was in a shared hunt so...

Play solo if you're looking to cut tails, especially with a ranged weapon. Take Special Ammo Boost. Every time you mount the monster (you can mount with bow's dodge-jump melee attack), focus the tail, and every time it's toppled, get a raking shot with the dragon piercer.

You may have a little more luck equipping your palico with a cutting weapon, and equipping them with shield so you have more opportunities to rake the tail.

The clutch claw attack is slashing so it can cut tails. So is the melee attack / arrow stab.

Best advice, though, is not to use bow if you want the tail severed. Some monsters have huge tail HP and you will absolutely gimp your dps to try to cut the tail with bow.

With IB it seems tail items are more common as rewards or for tail break rewards, so you may not need to cut it.

Yeah, for Rathian spikes you dont need to cut the tail, just break the armor on it, but you have higher chance to get spikes if tail is severed.

You can sever the tail by doing the dodge mount attack thing where you slap it with your giant arrow, I believe. That probably means you can sever the tail with your jump attack too. Dragonpiercer also does sever damage I think, although I honestly wouldn't know as I've only used a bow back in High Rank and Dragonpiercer was kinda awful.

Pretty sure I severed some tails doing the dodge mount attack anyway, but it's been so long I can't remember.
