The way that powerguard works makes it so that it stops your stamina bar from reducing when you take a hit at the cost of increased chip damage.
Most of the time any stamina lost holding those is quickly replenished during the counter animation or while a monster is recovering from its attacks anyway. Has a bit of use if you like to use joust charging a lot, but with Raider Riders the travel aspect of it has kind of been made redundant and you have enough stamina by default to use it and reach the full charge without any skills too.
Stamina skills? Pah! Just bring Dash Juice!
