But everything is viable, so use what you prefer and like.
Pick one with a style you like, and play around with its mods is what I say!
Karma was fun to use back in High Rank for RFN2 I believe, so I'm going to assume the tree that follows it which I think ends up being "Ghost" or something would be decent. Might not be amazing, but if it's anything like ye olde Taroth Assault "Support" or whatever Light Bowgun, it should be pretty usable. It won't accept custom augments being a unique weapon but it likely doesn't need them.
Ten Thousand Volts (Rajang) is also pretty potent, but that is mostly for Sticky 3 - exploding constantly for 100 - 150 damage and basically stun locking any monster unlucky enough to be in your way.
I don't really know about any of the others. I used the Hidden Bullet II early into Master Rank because you can pick it up very quickly alongside the Nargacuga set which synergises with it very well, before you get something better. Pierce doesn't wreck everything, but it can make mockery of certain monsters, such as Fulgur Anjanath. I eventually swapped to the Blackwing Bowgun II which is better, but by then I'd swapped to a HBG for Pierce 3 so I didn't use it too much. Have used some Ten Thousand Volts for some fun runs, mostly against Rajang himself, it's very overpowered.
Otherwise no clue, but those are some to look out for anyway. Very meta though, and not at all nice looking in my opinion.
It's not a musket.
Long story short: in World, I would suggest Karma (odogaron LBG) and Defender V as top tier contender for the best choice. Empress Shell Styx is a niche choice for elemental ammos, but a solid one.
If and when you manage to farm Arch Tempered Kulve extensively, go for Taroth Support (keep in mind, it lags a little behind the Defender) and Kjarr Blitz Decay (one of the few LBG viable for spread 3).
In Iceborne on the other hand, the Fading Blossom is a great addition for any hunt, thanks to both statuses and sticky ammos. Another great LBG is the Blackwing Bowgun, the sticky ammos king, and one of the few LBG able to outperform Safi weapons.
