do tails disappear after you cut them?

i just spent 30 mins fighting the biggest ♥♥♥♥ing dinosaur ever, finally put him to sleep and his tail disappeared. what the ♥♥♥♥?

You probably lopped it off somewhere. It will still be on the ground you'd just have to find or remember where it got cut off

They do dissappear, however it seems to be quite a long period, and possibly linked to the monster death/capture (aka it when the monsters corpse vanishies so does the tail).

You can normally see it on the map if it is still there, you should really be picking them up when they change zones during the fight, that way you don't have to risk it.

I've been farming the kupo out of tails after I've cut them off, and I didn't see them disappear, but they should after a while I think,. It either bugged out for you or it fell in grass/someplace you forgot.

If the tail was cut off and you missed it, there should be an icon on the map that shows you where it was chopped off so you can go back to carve it.

I had an entire carcass disappear on me...I had a mission where I had to kill both Rathian and Rathalos. I killed Rathian just as Rathalos came to her side...I didn't have time to harvest her carcass because of Rathalos. I fought him until he flew off and couldn't find her body anywhere. I didn't go far from her body and it was just...gone. :( Oh well, I needed the materials from Rathalos anyway and not Rathian.
