here's a helpful link: https://mhworld.kiranico.com/guide/damage#status-attack
poison..like it very much.
Poison will work alot like this as well as well Blast weapons(But blast is more of a singular explosion that likes to proc more often)
Not really, it adds a little bit of extra damage. It used to be nearly essential on a certain elder dragon but they removed that mechanic in World.
Depending on your weapon poison is essentially hitting the monster 1-3 more times.
And deal damage like some of the stronger atacks in the game.
Also, just fyi, the way that status ailments work is that they don't really 'proc'. Instead, imagine that there's an invisible status bar on the monster, and as you attack it with an elemental weapon (lets say paralysis), that bar gradually fills up. Once that bar is full, the status effect activates. That's one of the reason why faster weapons like dual blades are better for elemental builds.
I think poison is always good to have. Especially when going up against elder dragons. Though the damage is less, it's still good sustain damage when ever you're not attack. For example while the monster is moving to another location or there isn't a good opening for a strike. And of course some monsters are more vulnerable to poison than others.
How ever it use to be the ailment of choice when Elderseal wasn't created yet. It basically stops an elder dragon from casting certain abilities like their aura or a really devastating AOE.
Paralysis is one of my fav ones, build yourself para hammer or charge blade and you'll be able to effortelessly land your big hitters.
