Pretty sure you lose everything if you DC. If you fail you still keep stuff in your inventory, if the game crashes you also lose everything.

That's my understanding of it.

if ya fail u still get ur gathered stuff, if you press Return or abandon u still get ur gathered stuff too (i think since im not sure about abandon).
If you disconnect u will be alone in the session and keep ur stuff even ur spot will be kept but the other players will disappear.
If you alt+f4 ur game say goodbye to your whole game loot since the Save is after the mission.

As long as your don't Abandon Quest but use the Return option instead you'll keep everything you collected.

The game only auto saves after you've successfully returned from a mission or abandoned it.

Even if you DC you keep the gathered stuff, the game just puts you in offline mode. Crashing to desktop is something different though.

But if you fail a quest you keep all gathered stuff, but you just won't get any added quest rewards.

For some reason I was thinking of DC as being booted from the game but I remember this game just puts you in singleplayer.

ok, if you disconnect from online play, it auto puts you in single player mode and carry on.
If you return to HQ from the Menu, you get to keep whatever you get in the quest while losing whatever potions etc. that you used.
But if you Abandon a quest from the menu, everything is reset to the state before you enter the quest.
Lastly, if your game crashes or what sort mid game, obviously you are losing progress and load your last save.

Just a tip, if you just started a MP quest and barely was killing the monster and you
had a full party or less, you might as well quit because the game still registers you as within the party and get half the payout.

Also it doesn't scale the monsters down if you were in party.

But it only cuts the money down not the loot, so if you were midfight it is best to just try and finish it. In worst case you fail but you still keep the rewards. And in most cases you can down the monster for the full rewards.

Abandon - all items used will be reverted back to your inventory but all progress made in quest is deleted.

Return- items used in quest are consumed, but items gathered will be in your inventory.
