What's the point of Private Lobbies?
I bought the game yesterday, and I am aware that there's some pretty bad server issues because of the huge player base. Me and my friend tried setting up a private lobby (whenever the servers weren't acting up) so we could get a party of just me and him going. The lobby would be made, and when I was invited, I attempted to join, but got a message telling me how the Lobby is Private, and I'm unable to join. What's the point of even having a private lobby option if your friends can't even join with an invite?

More importantly I'm wondering why they don't have the option to start the game in offline mode rather than having to wait for the disconnect to make it offline.

To join a private lobby they have to give you the lobby id for you to join them. Private lobbies prevent randos from jumping into you lobby if you don't want people to join you in your hunt.

The game is in offline mode unless you create your own server at least.

I assume steam invites were meant to work but they don't so it's broken at the mo.

Make your online session private
Give your friend your session ID
Have them search for session via session ID (copy pasted from you)
There ya go. He/she just joined your private session and the both of you can run as see fit without outside players joining in.

This. There is a spot to copy the session id so you can send it to people.

Maybe you need the password for a private lobby?
Anyway, you have "friends session" to play privately with people from your friendlist, and you could always make a 2-player normal session.

The real question is why the hell do I need to create a private lobby to play solo, and get disconnection messages randomly?

You cannot play offline, unless you unplug your internet. You must create your own server to start the game

Starting the Private session isn't that much harder then pressing an offline button. And if you don't have an internet connection it goes offline anyway. And how private lobbies work currently not even your friends can join it without the SessionID. So why making the hassle to add another type of lobby?

On playstation friends can join your private lobby without problems. Somehow Capcom botched this feature on PC. Even though the game actually tells you when to just send an invite and your friend could join it doesn't work. Current workaround is sharing the session ID, but that is just bothersome. They also removed squads and it seems they replaced them with steam groups. Have not found the option to open a group session yet. On PS4 there were squad sessions but since squads are gone, so are their sessions.

I'm guessing they'll be fixing this sometime in the future then?

Probably, as I got a feeling they didn't implement the sessions correctly or didn't finish them in time as Squad sessions equivalent for Steam groups aren't in the game either.
