extremely quiet audio?
Hey all,

Does anyone have a solution for the extremely quiet audio?

I've already switched to headphones, 3D sound and I've messed with the different ranges, but the same is still extremely quiet. Part of the issue is I am somewhat hard of hearing, so everything is really hard for me to hear. I tried a program that boosts audio but it just made everything muffled and bassy.

Thanks for the help!

what hardware you are using?

headphones? you amp could possibly not be strong enough to power it (if this is the only game that you have issue with hearing said audio than never mind this)

make sure that your Window audio setting are max out. there are times where you see "100%" but its in fact not reaching there.

how to do this.
right click on your audio icon to the bottom right, click volume mixer (Window 10), and make sure its all lines up correct.

the setting you are playing around with are for different things.

3D audio is a HRFT solution. its gives you directional audio by simulation audio cures the way a human ear does.

Your windows audio is max right?

Seems to be a problem with some users. No solution I've found yet. I have to have my system at 100% volume for MHW to be barely audible.

Max in game volume settings.
Max computer volume settings.
MHW can barely be heard. I can run my system at 20-30% volume most of the time and my games are a comfortable sound level. I have ot run MHW at 100%, and everything else my computer may be doing at that time is Really loud. Like if I tab out to watch a video, or if I exit the game and then turn on Netflix before remembering to turn down my volume.

My screenshot from the other thread on this:

MHW, Speakers, and Firefox set to 100%. You can see the sound level from MHW is miniscule. I had started a Youtube video with my max volume settings just for reference when I took the screenshot. You can see the higher audio output from Firefox because of it.

Yeah, must admit mine is a bit low. When I switch to another game the volume difference is very noticable

Thought it started working for me again. But the main screen when I start MHW was a normal volume, but starting a game, it drops to barely anything again. Which is even more odd I think... As soon as I select "Start Game" and create a session, the sound is so low...

Start the game fresh: Title Screen has normal volume
Start a new session: Volume drops significantly, must raise up to 100% system volume
Return to Title Screen, Volume is still significantly low.

Quit and start again, volume is normal again. Until I leave the Title Screen and start playing an actual game session.

Edit:
Tried the "When Windows detects communications activity: settings. Either Mute, -80%, -50%, or Do Nothing. Saw it was set to -80%. Thought for sure that was the culprit. But no go, even when set to "Do Nothing" it still was very low audio in game.

You are not alone with this. Compared to most programs Monster Hunter is notablye quieter by comparison to everything unless I crank my speaker's volume knob (be it with or without headphones) to a point where anything else would be start to be painful.

I think I found the culprit.

For some reason, Dolby Audio is being turned on/off as you start the game, and join a session. (And at other times during the game starting).

Under my "Speaker Properties" the "Dolby Audio" tab. There is a button to turn it On or Off (toggles).

I started the game with it ON, and the Title Screen had normal volume. I left the tab open on the side screen, and when I joined a game Session, the game went very quiet. Dolby Audio had toggled "OFF". I turned it back on Manually and it went to normal volume again.

Not sure what about the game is causing Dolby Audio to be Toggled On and Off at times, but once it is Toggled ON again the sound will be at normal levels.

Currently running around in Asteria, able to hear things, and my system is at 20% volume. I did have to Alt-Tab out of the game and turn on Dolby Audio again once starting the Session.

I have a similar problem with voice chat. The game audio is audible, but you can't tell if the other players are talking or not.

I know I'm not going crazy... I opened up the volume mixer while in-game and this is as loud as the music gets at 100% in-game volume, 100% hardware, 100% headphones max https://i.imgur.com/Xc3FV9n.png

edit: and for comparison, here's spotify at 100% - https://i.imgur.com/OgOkqU7.png

Ya, mine did the same thing. For me, it was because the game was turning off Dolby Audio every time it started. Once I turned on Dobly Audio, the volume worked as expected.

I haven't found a solution to it automatically being turned off, but turning it on is relatively easy.

I've been trying to work out what was going on with my audio so I'm glad its not just me! x.x I remade my character and noticed that both times the sound went super quiet as soon as I got to the part where online becomes a thing. It was also lowering Youtube videos at the same time which I thought was odd, but I couldn't work out why it was doing it. I just tested it and yeah, when I'm in an online session Dolby turns itself off. Offline, it's fine.I hope it gets fixed because it's kind of annoying...

Same time it happened for me. I played for the first time just fine, and then when I joined again and the Online Sessions were active (after the first bit in game) is when it started turning off Dolby Audio and making the actual game very quiet.

I read some stuff last night on Acer's user forums and there was some discussion about Mics and Dolby Audio not liking each other. Currently I'm wondering if the online voice chat is what is making Dolby Audio be toggled off, would explain why it only happens once you get to the point where the game is played "online".

I found that when I connected a mic in the game for the first time, the audio in the game and everything else like my web browser went really quiet. I found out that in the sound settings under the Communications there's a setting that lowers all applications volumes by 80% when windows detects a call (in this case the game voice chat), so just check the "Do Nothing" setting and it fixes it. Maybe that's what it is for you too.
TirithRR Aug 12, 2018 @ 9:48am
No, I did that very first thing. The "Mute All" "-50%", "-80%" and "Do Nothing" options did not help.

The issue is Dolby Audio is turned off every time you begin a Session, which causes the game audio to plummet. Turning Dolby Audio back on restores it to normal. Turning off voice chat in game did not stop it from occuring either.

Edit: Actually post number 6 in this topic. https://steamcommunity.com/app/582010/discussions/0/1745594817439003213/?tscn=1534092438#c1745594817439440660
