20 seconds to carve. SOLVED
Title sounds like the newest "2-fast-2-furious" movie; "2-fast-2-carve", lol.
However! At the first Rathian kill quest, Royal Relocation, I only had 20 seconds to carve, despite always having 60 seconds before. And since the "kill replay" lasts for so long I never got into position to get anything... Is this an error on the developers part, or just an arbitrary change as you go through the game?

20 seconds means someone captured it.
Your monster got captured. You cannot carve captured monster and you get the "carving" reward at the end.
By capturing monster you have higher chance of getting rare rewards

kill replay can be skipped with start and 20 seconds is for a capture.

If you have 20 seconds someone captured the monster, and you can't carve it anyways. It'll be 60 seconds if it's carvable.

I wish I had recorded it, cuz I swear it keeled over dead, and others were carving from it, unless that was something else.
How do you capture something mid-fight? I thought you had to either trap it then sleep-bomb it, or sleep-bomb it while it's resting.
Oh well, thanks!

they mighta captured it on top of its severed tail. or something died underneath it worth carving.

you can skip the "kill animation" as you call it, push start.

Only requirement for the capture is that the monster is at roughly 20% hp, there are several way to know when this happens, after that you just trap it and use 2 tranq bombs or ammo, if you had a LBH/HBG user on the team he could easilly switch to tranq ammo for the capture.

When you have enough tracks you will see a skull icon appear next too their mini map portrait. If not you can see it limp when it flees or when you see it sleeping.
