Otherwise its no different than fullscreen. I don't see the point.
In games where you will move your cursor the width of the screen a lot it makes no sense to not lock the cursor context into the window.
Your "cursor" is locked into the middle of the of the screen for games like these. Deviation from that spot pulls the camera/crosshair to where you are aiming. You're pointing your camera ____ units down up left right when you're moving your mouse.
If you needed to do a 180, unless if your mouse sensitivity is really high, your cursor will be moving offscreen if it was not "locked".
You try to shoot and nothing happens becaues you're clicking your internet browser on the other screen. You'll die in a firefight/monster hunt.
You can still absolutely use your other monitors seamlessly. There's no load time between alt-tabbing. I use dual monitors and you can't apply a blanket rule to games with borderless window for genre's where it doesn't make sense.
The only thing you should be expecting when you see borderless window is that
1. It looks like fullscreen
2. There's no load times when you are tabbing back and forth.
Other than that it's really going to be dependant on the genre whether your cursor will be locked into the window or not as the game sees fit.
Its not hard to have a new name for a new mode that is some convoluted mess that people want. Why not call it Apache Attack Helicopter Mode FFS.
Borderless window = no borders on the window. Simple. Genre matters not. Taking away this freedom in favor of some modern SJW crap is annoying.
TBH most of the FPS / action I've ever played follow a simple convention:
- If your cursor is NOT visible (i.e. it's being used for camera control), yes it's locked to the game window
- If your cursor is visible (for example while in menus), it's not locked (or there is an option to let it be locked / unlocked).
You just press esc most of the time and your mouse is free, or in some games there is a keybind to do that.
I've been playing a lot of games on pc with dual monitor / windowed game for more than a decade now. I've installed MHW tonight and I'm already finding this annoying. Maybe there is plenty of other games with this same problem and I've been extremely lucky, but this is the first time for me.
