My Eyes are Beginning to Hurt Playing This...
I played this game for over 100 hours on PS4, and I don't think my eyes ever hurt. My PC is well above the recommended specs so there's no resolution/graphics issue, and I'm using the same monitor I used playing the PS4 version of the game.

I wonder why my eyes are hurting now and not when I played the PS4 version of the game.

Sitting closer to the screen? Monitor set to a higher brightness? Newly installed brain tumor?

My eyes hurt alot on the PS4 version when playing it, I bought eye drops for it. So maybe you are just noticing it now or the wheather has changed?

Try blue light reduction

lower the brightness and make sure you get 60 fps most of the time.

Placing V-Sync on to stabalize the FPS will help a lot. Lock it at 60 if you uncapped it. On weaker systems lock it down to 30, TechAnalysis did a test of the limit and found it was so stable that a steady 30 will feel smoother to the eye than 40-60 variations will.

It may just be you're still getting used to playing with different controls? I've found the screen often turns slower than I expect thanks to the camera having a speed-cap. Still getting used to that one, which can be jarring losing the monster mid-way through the fight. Enable/increase motion blur if you're getting thrown off too much, increased information will lead to eye-strain and headaches.

Get glasses or a new monitor. The game looks just fine if your eyes arent averse to light.

Motion blur. I have no issues with it when playing console games, but on PC it causes me eye pain, nausea and headaches (my eyes try to focus through the blur effect and that causes extra strain which leads to all the other symptoms). Fun fact, there is no option to turn it off.

I guess to be fair, I alt+tab a lot during gameplay and I did spend a god awful amount of time in character customization. And I do remember straining my eyes trying to see the perfect sliders. So maybe that?

Or oh maybe this! REALLY You can't turn it off? Why not? Is the game unable to render without motion blur?

If you can't turn it off in any way, lower brightness of the monitor / find a "reduce blur" option in monitor settings / reduce blue light. Those are the most common things that start headaches and cause eye strain.

I played MHW for a few hours today and it got to the point where I literally couldn't open my eyes for like 20 minutes. You ain't alone, OP. CAPCOM is trying to destroy our filthy gaijin eyes for making them port this to PC. If we all go blind they'll never have to port another game to PC again.

It might be the default brightness, it's pretty high
