Insect glaive
I'm new to MH and was really appealed by the insect glaive videos. People have warned that this is quite a difficult weapon but i think i'm doing something wrong in the basics.

Now don't get me wrong, hitting the monsters and surviving isn't the issue here but the full power of the insect blade from what i understood lies in the jumping mechanism.

Whenever i try to jump i fly off in a random direction, double jump i easily overshoot the target, either left or right mousebutton and i attack but never seem to hit. How does this work ? How can i actually start hitting the target more frequent and start working on my combo's ?

It seems like it's all about the timing and you're missing it. Don't spam the attack buttons, don't mash them without thinking. Take your time to analyze what each one of the different aerial attacks do.

When you're in the city, inside your room you can go to the training zone - it's really helpful for learning each weapon and their respective combos.

Something that works for me with the Insect Glaive is to face the opponent whenever I want to jump, wait for the correct timing, and if he does move somewhere else, simply reposition with dodge while in air if needed. Keep in mind that if you have enough stamina and a good timing, you can chain a sweet aerial combo on top of the monster.

Not sure if my wording is the best, but I'm sure you can find some tutorials on YouTube!

Stop jumping so much and just attack from the ground you will do more DPS. Only jump if the monster is trying to fly, youre trying to avoid some attacks by doing aerial attacks, or if youre trying to mount. Basically only use the vault attacks if you're trying to mount, and only use the one where you spin back to the ground because it does the most mounting damage. Later in the game if you're caught flying in the air doing attacks you will get 1 shot by a powerful move because you cant get away in time. also use a controller if youre having trouble with landing aerial attacks you can choose your direction when you vault, aerial dodge, and when you start your attack and its probably just easier with controller than with keyboard.

There are some control schemes you can change as well, in the control options, theres 2 pages as well. I use character oriontation on directional dodge and target camera instead of the new focus camera. But mm, insect glaive feels a bit slower in this game than in MHX, but it's new functions make it fun as well. Be aware of your kinsects stamina bar, and don't be attacking without the red buff, watch this tutorial I linked, very informative.

let your beetle collect the red juice than call it back.
it can collect white, yellow, green and red.

White = Increase the hunter's speed for 90 seconds. Generally acquired from the monster's legs and wings.
Red = Increase the hunter's attack and alters some attack animations (e.g. some attacks hit multiple times in a single input) for 60 seconds. Generally acquired from the monster's head.
Orange = Increase the hunter's defense and knockback resistance to weak attacks for 45 seconds. Generally acquired from the monster's body.
Green = Recover a small amount of health. Generally acquired from the monster's tail.

Red + White = 20% Attack increase + Red and White bonuses for 60 seconds.
White + Orange = 6% Defense increase + Earplugs (resistance to some monster roars) + White and Orange bonuses for 60 seconds.
Red + White + Orange = 25% Attack increase + 8% Defense increase + Earplugs boost + Red, White, and Orange bonuses for 60 seconds.

it unlocks quick attacks of the weapon so you can do lots of damage in air or on ground

it depends on the monster, if use more flying combos or ground combos.

I relied those stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and keep dying for my first 1x hours.
Try to fighure out how to do ground attack without dying first.
