How to SnS, need tips
So recently i try SnS and hunt monster with SnS. Soooo, how do you hunt big monster with this weapon? Example anjanath. (im new to this game and dont have much time to play, so i just finish Paolumu main story :'(, sorry for my slow progress)

Like i can' t reach his/her/it tail, cant hit the face because it move so aggresive, the only i did was hit its feet until its down and spam button in the face. The problem is when i hit the feet my damage is so low(white number) and my sharpness break first before i can deal much damage to bring it down. Any tips?

I already watch the youtube but they already have good armor and weapon, and some of them spaming jump and shield attack, but it doesnt work for me

go to the training room
the training room has it all if you got icborne you can cluch claw the face

Ps if you are new shot off a SoS to get help
The SnS is low tier at low lvls
Build new armor/weapons

Yes, do try it in the training room! There are some cool combos the SnS can pull off, (including throwing yourself up into the air and slamming back down on the monster, good for those higher hits like the tail)

You will have to unfortunately hit the feet a good bit to try and score knockdowns. Gather some whetfish for quick sharpens without having to hide or waste a DPS window for. Crits and exploiting elemental weaknesses might help with this.

One of SNS's biggest advantages though is that you can use any item without sheathing your weapon. So you could quickly lay down a pitfall to get to the tender parts of some thing like an Anjanath.

If you have iceborne, you can use the clutch claw off of dodge rolls to sneak in a quick hit and some slinger ammo. A bomb or piercing shot might work better at the legs than a chain of slashes

hit the tail when the monster is down. you dont have the range like the other weapons

It's more so practice with positioning and timing with the monster itself and you'll be able to get that tail. Your backstep before you throw yourself up gives you invincibility frames, so you can use that to ignore it's attack and immediately throw yourself up and then just aim for the tail.

So with out the icebborne expension the best combo regarding dps is the unga bunga falling shield bash accesible within the back hop combo

i will say it now SnS is a very difficult weapon to play right/master ( i'm a main SnS with so many hours )

specially with like thoses big monster with the head really high up , thoses match up are very bad

honestly you should change weapon with thoses match up cus hiting thoses big monster with only the slash combos is pretty weak compare to a proper falling bash combo

here have a very basic guide of that mighty SnS

sorry for bad english btw have a nice day .

Some monsters simply are a bad matchup for SnS because of the short range, and you're reduced to chopping legs until they fall over. I consider Anja (and other monsters with similar structures) to be among the worst matchup for the weapon.

Its strength lies in its mobility and adaptability, able to get quick strikes in where most weapons can't, and a decent block if you add in guard skills. Focus on bringing it to hunts where the monster is quick or has weak spots typically within your reach. Dodge and backhop through their attacks to maintain the offensive, and make use of mounting attacks to give yourself plenty of time to remove those tails.

SnS weaknesses are lack of range and lowish damage outside of combos.

There are ways around this, mind you. SnS has three super important moves that you should master asap :
- Spiral Slash, press direction+Light attack in the middle of a combo to reset it and change direction, super usefull to go infinite or correct your positioning on the fly.

- Advancing Slash. It's your unsheathing attack while moving, but can also be performed from neutral unsheathed position by pressing both attack buttons. This is the attack with the most reach, it will hit the base of an Anjanath's tail, and heads high-up there.

Performed in front of a ledge, it allows you to do acrobatic attacks that climb/jump from the ledge and make you aerial, and deal mount damage.

Performed in front of a mushroom wall, it leads into the Helmsplitter, a devastating attack that deals a lot of small hits and build a ton of mount damage. It is kind of tricky to aim, though, got to practice it again and again.

Performed on a sledge when unseathed, it will send you directly into your unseathed slide, which leads to a very powerfull airborne combo that, again, builds mount damage.

- Backhop into Charged Slash. The Backhop on its own is an awesome defensive move, allows you to reposition and even gives you invincibility frames, can be tricky to time but it comes with practice.

But if you hold your heavy attack button after it, you can go into Charged Slash, which is where the fun begins. If you hit the monster with your Charged Slash, you'll be send into the air, giving you this much-needed reach to hit tails and heads.

From there, you can either do an Aerial Slash, good to build mount damage, or the Shield Bash, that deals very good damage, but no mount damage, since you hit with the shield, not the blade.

Also note that Shord and Shield has, well, a sword and a shield. Hits with the Sword are Slashing, meaning they can cut tails. Hits with the Shield are Blunt, they deal KO damage on heads, and don't consume Sharpness.

Reaaly nice advice here.

Sns is probably the most adaptable and flexible weapon of the game, dealing sever and impact damage. You have a lot of agility with it. You can cancel and evade from nearly every move. Don't forget that you have a shield too.

Also don't forget SnS has the fastest acces to your slinger, and in base game is the only weapon that can use it while unsheated. Don't underestimate it. Trigger environmental traps with it from a distance, like boulders...or the different species of status frogs in the maps. Piercing, Thorn, Crystal and Bomb pods flinch the monsters giving windows of oportunity to attack. Flash pods are still useful to stop monsters and heal, trap or sharpen.

Be aware of your environment. That's a nice lesson that SnS teachs very well

Believe it or not, Anjanath is one of the easier brute wyverns for SnS since he actually trips when you hit his legs. For Anja specifically, you'll break his legs if you hit them enough times and then they will become weak points that respond to your crits.

As someone said earlier in the thread due to it's low reach and low damage but massive amount of actions and combos SnS is a weapon with a high skill ceiling. Not always being able to access weak points from the jump is tough, especially since SnS needs 2 attacks to tender. Unfortunately, for the hard to reach weakspots you'll simply have to practice more. As you learn the monster you will find windows to hit the tail or whichever weak point you're looking for but it'll take time.

MAIN POINT: you're a weapon that is looking for trips to bring the monster to your level. Tenderize and make use of the legs or practice positioning to chip out the other weak points.
