Blast vs poison + build optimising thread
hello, which one of the two is more relevant in iceborne lategame (or in expansion overall) ? as we speak i'm rank 72, still planning to do some augmentations but that would require me to higher up my rank to 100 maybe

here is my build, thinking about optimising it, tried to avoid the meta build https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2010795538

well, depends on the target.

i wouldnt use blast against Brachydios for example, but i'd use poison. and i wouldnt use poison against anything with a 1 star to it i'd use blast instead.

that said for most weapons the gold rathian weapon is typically your best poison weapon all round. for blast its variable. depending on what your trying to do.

highest raw is what is what is relevant as far as i know, unless you are playing bow or DB, CB. If you want poison go for gold rathian, has more raw/poison than nargacuga.

Anyways this is my current build: https://honeyhunterworld.com/mhwbi/?894,246,250,230,226,244,65,-,0,0,85,0,0,158,0,0,329,90,96,125,59,0,226,90,96,16,16,16,3:0:0:0:0:0:0

You can swap charm depending on situation

Depends on monster weakness and the weapon type. Pure raw is still the king in most situations, but for certain weapons (charge blade for example) elemental can be more stronger than pure raw.

Awakening a hidden status is never worth it. Just get the Gold Rathian Longsword instead.

i will build a poison hammer with poison duration up and crit status, when safi comes put.

Poison is generally very good all throughout Iceborne, and is usually beaten out by blast only on monsters that are 1 star weak to poison, particularly with the weapon options we have (Gold Rathian especially). Most blast weapons also have some pretty tight skill requirements to make them competitive, whereas Gold Rath weapons have so much freedom and comfiness since they don't really need anything, such as sharpness increases, hidden elements or such.

From my understanding, blast is the better choice because it's extremely easy to land procs for, whereas monsters gain poison immunity much faster

For longsword, gold rathian typically outperforms all other LS except for the zorah LS if you're able to maintain near 100% purple uptime but that requires speedrunner level skill.
Although since you don't want to use the meta builds do whatever.
You could still go zorah to improve skill though since it has fairly low purple with handicraft 5.

If you're not going for the meta, I'd suggest the Gold Rathian 4 piece bonus, then build crit, very much like a Master's Touch build, but you'll need another way to manage Sharpness, probably Protective Polish, and either Item Prolonger, Speed Sharpening or bringing Whetfish Fins.

The most cost-efficient is probably Protective Polish + Whetfish fins, if you can supply them.

Good thing is you'll also benefit from the Gold Rathian 2 piece bonus, Divine Blessing Secret, making you much more durable.
