Ancient Leshen: WTF
So I'm still quite a noob in terms of any advanced MH techniques and move sets, but I haven't really met any monster as frustrating as the Ancient Leshen. The vulture nova and the AOE branch attack aside, the fact that it constantly teleports and (I assume) a huge health pool makes it so much harder and annoying to fight against.
Any tips/tricks/tears to share?

dont rely on blocking for the crow nova? (primarily since it dont work.)

really the only things for him to remember is:

1. crow nova, you dive to evade it. his waves can be blocked/normal evaded but the nova is meant to be a kill move.

2. his HP is permanently scaled to 4 player. so its advised you find a decent group to coordinate a battle plan. this includes what CC types to bring and the like. (hint, 4 people running KO capable weapons is EZ mode.)

3. dont worry about bringing damage skills. bring a comfy set that can take a few lumps. i myself ran max health boost with divine blessing secret maxed out. literally nothing could kill me that wasnt a 3 hit combo.

4. flash pods are for jagras swarms. also cluster shot if your a HBG. others mgiht get annoyed by the cluster spam but if your killing all the jagras with well placed drops they have no room to complain.

5. unless everyone is running sticky bowguns, wound him when you can. this will considerably speed up the mission.

6. poison him. this can be done with poison smoke bombs as well if possible. its not super important but having this up does damage, therefore it is useful when he gets warp happy.

7. save allies from vine cage, they will shout out whatever they have for their pinned shout out. find em and free them, they CAN still die from this if they are unfortunate. if you cannot reach them, this is what lifepowders and dusts of life are for. healing them before they get a twig up their bum.

Flash Pods
Bring as many as you can carry, as many materials to make more as you can carry, and fast travel back to camp to resupply them between each phase/area

[Assuming nothing changed with him since Iceborne]
He can be flashed out of everything, and he never builds any resistance to them

Crow Nova? Flash to stop it
AoEs? Flash to stop them
Jagras swarm? Flash to blind them all when they arrive (and cancel the Leshen out of whatever he's doing at the time too)
Teammate grabbed in the cage? Flash to stop his attack and free them

Remember to break parts! That is the biggest thing with Ancient Leshen, breaking parts significantly weakens his attacks; breaking his back causes him to spawn less crows and use less crows for his attacks, break his head for him to call less jagras
Also build for fire element, it helps a ton

Can you clutch claw and soften him? I haven't gone back to fight a Leshen since Iceborne. If you can, that would make breaking his head twice to weaken his powers a lot easier than before, right?

You can but it doesn't make much of a difference.

My suggestion to the OP, only do it with Master Rank gear and if possible Divine protection at rank 3 or better yet rank 5 with Golden Rathian armor.

You'll be hit A LOT and I mean A LOT. Stun resist is also valuable.

If you were using HR gear, you'll need a perfect group with extremely good co-ordination to take it down. Often time, that may involve a Hunting Horn player that gives buff and healing. Constantly lookout for members that were trap in root/vein (save ign). Voice chat is essential on this fight. Use flashpod at crow nova.

If you were using MR gears, it's just whatever. Drop a health booster, wear a rocksteady mantle, you can just go ham at it. Weapon Augment - health regen helps tremendously. Only problem then is his teleport. Have someone use sticky / paralysis he will have no where to run.

That vine cage can go die...
Getting trapped by it when you can basically kill or deal with anything else it has is just plain disheartening...

My advice is to just tool specialist it up so that temporal can deal with that move instead. Everything else you can brute force with a health augment and recovery up. especially when all of the jagras jump at you. It's like watching the game play tug of war with your health bar.

Until leshen gets bored and throws the vine cage at you.

Igni the thing, chop it while it's wailing, run away, rinse and repeat. Took like 30mins solo with HR stuffs. Then again I was fairly deck out with my HR gears back in the day so eh..

He ramps up his offense in later stages, so it may be worthwhile holding off on poisoning him until those later stages. Why burn through the easy part faster?

Temporal is your friend, as is Igni.

Health booster is really handy.

most important things about this creature is:

-Dodging and knowing his skillset, A MUST, you have to react based on this more than ever or you wont last long. Gotta learn the whole fight.
-Flash pods, very important to because 1 point.
-Fire. Burn the hell out of him, with Igni or other methods, to weaken him and get those vultures out
-Team healing items. you need to help your team and be very aware of whats happening to everyone.
-Vine cage can be stopped by burnin it, or flashin Leshen, if you dont ♥♥♥♥ s gonna happen
-Monster is weak agaisnt fire and draco, breaking part is very useful too
