Greatsword build
After almost 200 hours playing greatsword I took off the focus skill . Surprisingly I don’t really miss it . I really only charge the last hit .
What’s your opinion ?
What do you run on your greatsword build?

I'm also a greatsword main, though I've also played CB and hammer a lot! GS is definetly my most used weapon though, so I'll chime in with what I know.

I usually slot in focus and handicraft as I consider those to be mandatory on a GS build.
I find that focus is simply a very comfortable skill to have and it allows me to get a few extra hits in while minimizing the risk.
Handicraft is a must in order to get most GS to purple sharpness. though it isn't required in every build and for a crit draw build you can even safely skip it.

Other then that I mainly tend to run the standard set of meta skills such as : Health boost, weakness exploit, critical boost and critical eye.
I've found agitator to be quite usefull as well, though I find it a harder skill to add to most of my GS builds.
Attack boost is no longer worth it for GS in my opinion as the skills that I mentioned above provide a far greater damage increase.

Agitator, weakness exploit, crit boost, crit eye, handicraft, health boost
focus is good but i believe it also reduces the time window you have to tackle since your charging is slightly faster with it which can be detrimental.

Thanks for your feedback. I really thought too that Focus was mandatory but after playing 20 hours without it , I don’t even notice it. Could be my playstyle tho . I also notice in Iceborne that for dps there is not a lot of damage difference in charging the first 2 hit and normal attack . Sorry if bad spelling not my first language

I might give it a shot as well! I'm really confortable with using focus, so I'm quite curious to see how my playstyle and clear times will be affected when I'm not using it.
This also gives me a bit of room to add other skills or improve existing ones.

I usually only charge the third attack as well (true charged slash), though focus does affect how fast your combo can reach that all important third hit.
I believe the first 2 attacks will still be faster when focus is used, even when theyre not being charged.

I'll have to experiment a bit to determine how much time is added to the full combo when focus is removed.

you are also right for handicraft but in late game ( im mr 202 ) i think you have to do your build without the charm so you can exchange it on the fly for what ever you need. In iceborne your charms are your most valuable equipment unfortunately and the harder to max out. Of course you can do lots of build but its way easier this way

Depends on how you play the GS. But in most of cases, Crit eye, Crit boost and weakness exploit are the saint trinity. Using attack boost, max might, agitator and latent power may be also viable options, but to be honest i haven't tried.
I mostly play GS with the old fashioned style which is critical draw and quick sheath, especially when hunting monster with mobility such as rajang. So i'm using Velkhana set.
Imo the two first hit are the most important ones and must have the highest damages possible, the third one rarely hits a weak part (+1k dmg) unless you have lucky/pro timing or time.
