Guard Up List
Hi All,

looking for an up to date list of what Guard up is required for in blocking with a lance, anyone got it handy?

Alright, another updated list of what guard up can't block. Let's go. I'm going down these by the monster field guide and what I remember.

Lunastra Supernova (You can block the wind part, but you can't block the damage over time effect.)
Nightshade Paolumu sleep gas (You can block the initial part, but you'll still get the status due to standing in the cloud.)
Brachydios Blastscourge (Same reason as nightshade paolumu)
Velkhana "the floor is ice and you're slow" (Counter with iceproof mantle.)
Vaals effluvium clouds (Applies to both. You can't block a cloud sitting there, it'll still tick away at your health.)
Namielle waves (Counter with waterproof mantle)
Savage jho jumping pin (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, good luck.)
Tempered zinogre pin (Can't be blocked, evidenced by the Wrath of the Thunderlord quest)
Stygian zinogre pin
Safi'jiiva pin (Dodge by rolling towards safi at the right time)
Safi'jiiva Saphire of the Emperor (don't try)

Behemoth Goring rush (It pins.)
Behemoth Ecliptic Meteor
Ancient Leshen... something. I forgot.

"But rajang!" I hear you say.

Rajang's a pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but i've never been pinned while in powerguard (blocks on a 360 degree rotation). This means that the hitbox for rajang's pin is so awful, that it literally reaches behind the player to grab them.

Teostra Supernova
New Master Rank Diablos/Black Diablos Charge (Plants hands and then charges)
Vaal Hazak Effluvial Cloud
Deviljho Pin and Devour Attacks
Kirin Straight Heavy Lightning Bolt
Xeno'jiva Continuous Horizontal Laser beam (Fire Balls, and Vertical Beams do not require Guard Up to block)
Kulve Taroth Fire Breath
Behemoth Belly-flop and Ground Fireburst
Velkhana's Ice Breath
Shara Ishvalda's Unarmored form Wind Attacks

This is the list that tell you which ones you can't block without guard up.

I don't believe that there are somthing that you can block with lance that others weapon like CB can't block. Simply with lance you can block better that others (and have the skill that block on 360°), that means you lost less stamina and get less pierce damage. If I am wrong on this part please correct me.

Basically every attack that is a beam and some pins but I have never seen a list with that stuff.

Edit:
Savage Jho's pin is unblockable btw.

with Shara Ishvalda's Unarmored form Wind Attacks beam just turn the lance where you're back is faceing the other way sheild still gets hit but knock you away with guard up dont try to full guard it to much stam loss and chip damage

Just an extra tidbit, Namielle’s nova does not need guard + to be blocked. Idk if Valkana’s Ice beams can be blocked with it, but they 100% can’t be blocked without it.

They can be :) (with Guard Up)

So you can actually block the Devil Jho pin? I thought I had Guard Up back when I tried before deeming Lance as a bad weapon against it but maybe I was mistaken. Guess I'll have to try it sometime.

Why do you even need the list? Just slap guard up in every set.

Anyone else think it's a bit stupid when you can tank a Teo/Luna supernova with Guard Up and yet a little hop by Deviljho or claw by Zinogre and you're pinned -_-

Why do people call Shara's attacks wind attacks? They're supersonic sound, hence the vibrations and ability to cause earthquakes

"supersonic sound" = "sound that is faster than sound", that doesn't make sense.

The beams you see are most likely air as unlike sound it is something that can be properly directed, it can also explain the fact it's chest is so full of holes, much like Valstrax they probably serve as intakes.

To maneuver underground it likely uses a combination of vibrating its wingtips to break up the ground like a jackhammer (which, given our own are pneumatic, is also probably powered by air) and injecting air into the resulting sand, making it act more like a liquid
