Gold Rathian weapons
I still wonder why 70% of the melee weapons players i see in multi use a gold rathian weapon. It has one of best damages, gives affinity and poison without having to use free elem and have a better than average sharpness at first sight.

I tested the longsword one (with non-elemental boost jewel), and compared it to the elemental ones (with velkhana's elemental boost). And it seems elemental weapons deal more damages.
So, are gold rathian weapons really that overpowered ? Is it a meta build or what ? (i dont really check meta builds, i prefer to use what i'm comfortable with :D )

I'm not that bothered, but i just notice that in most of cases in elder dragons hunts, i'm like the only one using elderseal weapons while others use non-elemental weapons.

Raw pros: mostly consistent damage and sharpness, lack of need to switch up between fights

Cons: less damage on some match ups

And i wouldn’t say gold rath is the comfy option, it’s the best raw option. They outright beat rajang, nergi and acidic glav in almost every stat. In rajang’s case, gold rath has less raw but makes up for it by adding another 25-30% affinity, way more sharpness and natural white, crap ton of poison instead of trash tier lightning damage. Nergi only really beats gold rath in the amount of white sharpness they have, they’re the true comfy weapons. And acidic glav is just a mess. You need handi 5, master’s touch and 100% affinity just to keep it consistent just like rajang. And they have the same base raw as grath. They lack the poison damage but can get 5% more raw with non elemental boost but it’s kind of a joke in iceborne.

Tldr: gold rath is meta as ♥♥♥♥ for raw until safi. I feel bad for anyone who doesn’t have a gold rath tree on their main weapons tree.

they are just very strong and easy to use in comfy builds.

I mean, you kinda answered your own question, friend. It's BiS for a lot of builds and Poison is no slouch either, especially since Non-Elemental Boost is dying (and will be dead on arrival of Safi'Jiiva)

They're also not too bad to look at, really, which helps a fair bit in most cases. Good stats, moderately okay looks, win win for most people.

I'm a Hammer main so I didn't get a Gold Rathian weapon, and the Silver Rathalos Hammer kinda sucks, so I'm indifferent, however.

it just the "best" raw (non elemental boost jewel isn't supposed to work tho) and some people don't bother doing elemental build since safi is coming soon.

Don't worry. You'll be drowning in people using safi blast weapons soon enough. :P

It depends on the weapon, swing speed and innate (somewhat hidden) stat called Build Up. Weapons that have a fast swing speed tend to favor elemental weapons, and while weapons with status ailments also benefit from this, their Build Up takes longer to guarantee a proc happening.

For a status ailment weapon to be most effective, it needs a combination of swing speed and proc chances, weapons that allow for this the best are Charge Blade, Switch Axe and Longsword. Poison is favored over most of the other stat ailments because it procs easier and more often than most, with poison dishing a small but steady stream of damage.

Gold is the worst color, it looks like my grandma designed those weapons. Tacky as hell

I don't mind them. Tacky was Kulve Taroth's solid gold base-iron weapons, at least these look designed.

Some of the Kulve Taroth weapons looked pretty cool, imo. I loved the engraving on the LS scabbard.

it seems the meta is, big white weapon, masters touch, lots of crit, crit boost, agitator.
So basically everyone paid 40 dollars for the behemoth armor set again.
Nauct Feb 20, 2020 @ 3:59pm
I like using the Nerg GS, don't have to sharpen even once without Master's Touch

Goldi Weapons are huge stat sticks.
They're very strong overall and fit comfortably in many builds.
No wonder why everyone plays them.

If in doubt, you can't really ever go wrong with an elementless weapon. (if you play a fitting weapon class, some are just not good without element)
Also comes in pretty handy when you only need to upgrade and augment one weapon as opposed to 5 - 8.
Fun fact, i was hunting in GL a tempered lunastra.

She were spamming her nova every 2 minutes because nobody excepted me played with an elderseal weapon, but i couldn't avoid her to charge her nova.
Told my teammates to switch their weapons to elderseal ones to end that annoying hunt, with ppl carted like 5 times each because of these nova spams. They didn't, they got toxic towards me, and then i got kicked.

What do you expect from 2 other people playing rathian LS and one with loyal thunder ? :D
