Weapon mastery.
Looking at great players using LS video i saw they are all damn good at timing theirs foresight slash or Iai slash to keep the momemtum going . That make me thinking what kind of mastery other weapons need . What kind of attack or skill for other weapons that is hard to master but give big reward ?

And no , thing like spamming sticky not counted as everyone can do that .

Charge Blade. Getting the time to pull off a SAED safely on a non-stunned monster can be rough, or just pulling off multiple guard points (intentionally) can be satisfying.

Shield and Sword: Throwing stones from far away.

All jokes aside:

Greatsword: tackles in order to dodge roars or attacks; timing your attack, ammo shot, immediate TCS.

Hunting Horn: lining up notes and playing notes while using the animations as part of your dps rotation.

Lance: (non evade-lancing) time your counterhits in order to actually block stuff while also immediately following up with an attack.

It's hard to master the Loyal Thunder.

Pressing one button over and over again requires the reflexes of a coyote.

Ah yes , to master one thing you have to do the same thing over and over and over again :p

You guys should try charge blade or switch axe.

On the topic of stickies, as a hammer and CB main I wanted to branch out and try other weapons I never gave a chance to. I actually beat AT Nergi with the longsword solo which I picked up only for that specific fight. A friend of mine recently got into HBGs namely Loyal Thunder, and while it was definately different I grew board of the shield spread build every meta chaser seems to gush about.

I made a Rajang Destroyer build with evade extender 3 just to meme around but I ended up really like the set up! Its basically a CC evade sticky build with 4 close range mods and power barrel. I am really close to the sticky damage cap.

If your used to weapons where you have to dodge the evade 3 lets you out range most attacks and knocks the monster down a lot especially solo. When the monster is KO'd or flinched I use the wyvern fire and usually get around 800+ damage per round.

It isn't "meta" but its extremely fun, especially since the best part of playing hammer is knocking out and flinching the monster which this gun and set up does well, especially against enemies with a lot of area denial like lunastra, teo, kushala, etc

From my experience the Switch Axe is the most demanding in terms of skill, followed by the Charge Blade and Hunting Horn.

GS: Tackling the face of a monster during their attack. Dodging is for people that don't have hyper-armor.

SnS: Not doing the shield slam or perfect rush. Yeah, the SnS has a regular L-L-R-R-R combo, which can turn into an infinite, that's much easier to land and has no lag time, making it the better idea in a lot of situations. Just exercise some self-restraint! Don't press back!

Normal Special-Scope HBG: Constantly adjusting your scope to keep your damage bonus isn't very easy. No excuse to just sit behind a shield and wait for the monster to come to you; you're using a sniper rifle, not a shotgun. Boom, headshot x100.

Bow too , demanding a lot on stamina management and side dodge charging .

HH : playing song(s) to knock the monster down while looking away from them

Switch Axe, because you essentially are learning two weapons, an Axe and a Sword, and when to switch between the two of them

Lance: Being able to properly use the entire moveset to stick to monsters and constantly attack while only using the shield to keep that momentum going.

GS:Knowing which combos will actually land the most damage given the situation. Also being able to land the lv 2 tackle > TCS combo on every attack that it counters.

hmmm... I don't see it.

I feel it's frankly more difficult to build well than to use well. You dodge -> shoot -> powershot until low on stamina, then recover said stamina, and that's basically it.

Low on stamina the moment you need to dodge is basically death sentence .

low =/= none. It's, like, a few of dodges worth.

With the amount of (effective) constitution you're supposed to run on a bow (5), dodging is incredibly cheap stamina wise.
