PSA: You Can Selectively Use HD Textures DLC if You Need to Avoid Stutter (on <6GB GPU memory)
In folder ChunkHiPC (the location of Hi Res Texture DLC files), there are 2 file named chunkG0.bin (40GB) and chunkG1.bin (1.8GB) that you can extract some/all of its content with with https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/411/?tab=description&BH=0 (follow the instruction on how to use it, and see "Posts" section for the additional required file).

In them, the notable folders are "em" for monsters (7GB) and "pl" for armor/player texture (26GB). After extracted, move the 2 folders into nativePC folder in the main folder of MHW (you can create it if you don't have it). The game will load those even if your setting is not set to use Hi Res Texture. The result, your armor and monsters will be always HD. The armor will be very noticeable. The monsters not so much, some still ugly if seen from carving distance (Diablos, Rathalos, Rathian, etc), but noticeably more crisp from like 3 meters away.

ChunkG1.bin is the Rajang update, it has Rajang HD texture in it (em023). You can take it and put together with other monsters from chunkG0.bin . You can google for monster ID or armor ID if you want to use only a few of them.

There are other folders in the .bin files, such as otomo (cat), npc, wp (weapons), etc that you can try but imo the default not need to be improved much unlike the armor and monsters.

On my 6GB 1660ti, using Hi Res Texture DLC cause regular stutter (GPU memory usage often reach 100%). With only the "em" and "pl" be used via nativePC folder, no stutter, I can get the HD on armor and monsters that I want with game still running smooth. IDK if it will be the same for 4GB gpu memory, but you can try if you want.

If you meet an error while trying to extract only a few small folder, try extracting the whole parent folder.

Glad to be of service. I been wanting it since Iceborne released. I even contacted MHVuze on nexusmods to ask if such is possible with the HD texture dlc (he is the one who made crude texture fix for armors on base game), but got no response. Had to do it myself lol

I am very interested in trying this, but I do have a few questions atm:
1. Do I still have to download the full 40GB HD Texture Pack?
1.a. If yes, perhaps someone is kind enough to host the necessary texture files, through Google drive to minimize download times? Is that viable or do I have to do my own extraction?
1.a.i. Wait, is that legal? lol I don't want to get banned.
2. Do layered armors also have HD Textures?

Cheers! :mhwhappy:

1. Yes.

1.a. The extracted files are around 90 GB in total, it is more practical to download the 40 GB HD texture pack then extract some/all of it in your hard drive. Download it once and keep it so in future you can extract more stuff from it should you want something else.

1.a.i. I would assume very legal, based on the fact that the devs let texture modding run directly via nativePC folder while function mod cannot do the same anymore after Iceborne. Making the game run well on your machine (while using HD texture pack) is very harmless yet increasing customer satisfaction, far from disrupting experience of other players, so no need to worry. The devs would be happy you find a way to run it smoothly without their help.

2. Yes. I saw some of it while copying folders.

Thank you! I hope there are weapon textures too! :mhwgood:

Yes there is. They are on a folder named "wp".

Nothing will get you banned.
People do worst and don't get banned.

I am curious what the total size of Character, Armor, Weapon textures add up to in comparison.
26GB for pl which is general textures for PlayerCharacters and armor
2.8GB for NPC Textures
6.7GB for WP which is Weapon Textures.
7.7GB for EM which will be your monster textures.

Stage makes up a large chunk of the textures which is World asset textures. A alarming 28GB for something you're barely ever gonna look at!
Now adding these up, there's some heavy compression on the chunk files so this is only really worth it if you're wanting to reduce VRAM usage, rather than disk space.

I was thinking of doing this well before this thread's creation, but just obvious pointers to others, back up your actual NativePC files so you can overwrite the texture dump if you have any texture/mesh alterations.
