Tip for new players using the longsword
The head is not your zone, please stay away from the head, you are not supposed to be there when playing with other players. The tail/wings is your zone. The only time a longsword user should be focused on the head is if the tail/wings have been broke/cut and there are no hammer users in the party trying to do their combos.

Edit: Hammer is designed for hitting the head, yes it is their zone, yes it is your job to not be awful and flinch people, no it is not the users job to change up there build to add flinch free because youre too selfish to let the hammer user hit the part of the monster that the hammer is designed to hit.

To the people bringing up rajang and kirin and small monsters, obviously in that case its no one fault and is not the situation im talking about because thats out of control of the player, however on things like rathalos if the wings arent broken and there is still a tail long sword users should absolutely not be near the head and if you are, you are the one in the wrong and thats a blatant fact.

Final Edit: This post has taught me not only are long sword users the worst players to be on your party due to always being the one to cart or ruin everything you do all the time, its not even out of not knowing. You guys are well aware you are the worst and expect everyone to waste a gem slot to deal with you being dumb. If someone has to waste a gem slot to deal with you, ie they are having to solve a problem that you are at the center of, maybe just maybe you are the one in the wrong. Heres the real tip for all the annoying longsword users, quit being a meta slave, drop the longsword and try one of the other 13 weapons in the game.

Flinch Free or find another spot. You're not special.

When you give a tip, it has to be not stupid, Tips are not "play the way i tell you to" I'm guessing your one of the stubborn players who does not understand that flinch free is a thing and whining about being hit.

Cutting Tempered monster parts when you're farming for decos doesn't help anyone. We don't need tail #84.

Head is often best DPS area. Sometimes its wings. Generally best to hit the area that gives the best damage returns.

People being dumb and running DIRECTLY INTO THE SWORD doesn't make it the LS player's fault. The LS player being dumb and hitting their allies when they could reposition to not hit their allies does make it their fault. If you're positioning well and intelligently, and your allies are positioning well and intelligently, you can avoid hitting your teammates. If I stab through the monster's head with SHB, and the tip of my sword hits your body when you're using lance, odds are you were literally shoved right into its jawline to the point where I'm outright amazed it's not eating you or pushed you back a bit with its flailing. And if you call me out for staggering you by doing that, quite frankly it's your own fault because you have a nice long weapon and chose to rub yourself on the monster.

Speaking as a longsword player, I am going to do *everything* in my power not to stagger you. I'm going to watch where you stand, and if I need to sacrifice a bit of damage to avoid staggering you, I'm gonna do so, but if you run directly into my attacks and expect me to stop, I'm just going to chain stagger you until you respect the fact that you drove yourself into my blade of your own accord. Unfortunately, I'm not a hammer player, so I can't launch you if you run directly in front of me and start attacking.

This.

if you are playing multiplayer with randoms then regardless of what weapon you are using or how Vet you think you are you should be running a level of flinch free. losing 1% of your damage is a small price to pay for not getting interrupted by people whose playstyle you can neither control nor predict.

With level 4 decos, I'm sure you don't have to sacrifice much skill to slot in a hybrid Flinch free jewel

How is this a tip when you just stated your sentiment towards LS users. If you want to argue about how LS users shouldn't target the head (which they should, as with other slice/chop weapons) and why they should attack arms/tails, you should at least throw in some stats and numbers to make your "tip" less dumb.

Indeed, though you will forfeit any damage skills in that slot, but it can still have what are often core survivability/utility skills in it. (Having received a couple of "Brace/Vitality" decorations all my builds now have at least FF 1)

A "Brace/_____" can apparently have:
Constitution
Divine Blessing
Evade Window
Health Boost
Recovery Up
Tool Specialist

There's also the Zorah b+ headpiece which has 1 level of Flinch Free and 4+2+1 for slots, if you aren't using all 5 armour slots for set bonuses you should absolutely consider using it.

I mainly play bow (and lance), but my tip for longsword users: Hit whereever you feel like, have fun and enjoy, this is a game!!!
And if anyone gets hit by another player because of lacking flinch free, just laugh and relax. They are not hitting you they are hitting some code in a machine.

This. Hammer user agrees.
BOWSER Feb 7, 2020 @ 3:50pm
Guys, Hammer doesn't need the Flinch Free gem.

Power Charge description: Boosts attack, stun power, and renders you immune to flinching while attacking or charging.

xD
