Head is often best DPS area. Sometimes its wings. Generally best to hit the area that gives the best damage returns.
People being dumb and running DIRECTLY INTO THE SWORD doesn't make it the LS player's fault. The LS player being dumb and hitting their allies when they could reposition to not hit their allies does make it their fault. If you're positioning well and intelligently, and your allies are positioning well and intelligently, you can avoid hitting your teammates. If I stab through the monster's head with SHB, and the tip of my sword hits your body when you're using lance, odds are you were literally shoved right into its jawline to the point where I'm outright amazed it's not eating you or pushed you back a bit with its flailing. And if you call me out for staggering you by doing that, quite frankly it's your own fault because you have a nice long weapon and chose to rub yourself on the monster.
Speaking as a longsword player, I am going to do *everything* in my power not to stagger you. I'm going to watch where you stand, and if I need to sacrifice a bit of damage to avoid staggering you, I'm gonna do so, but if you run directly into my attacks and expect me to stop, I'm just going to chain stagger you until you respect the fact that you drove yourself into my blade of your own accord. Unfortunately, I'm not a hammer player, so I can't launch you if you run directly in front of me and start attacking.
A "Brace/_____" can apparently have:
Constitution
Divine Blessing
Evade Window
Health Boost
Recovery Up
Tool Specialist
There's also the Zorah b+ headpiece which has 1 level of Flinch Free and 4+2+1 for slots, if you aren't using all 5 armour slots for set bonuses you should absolutely consider using it.
And if anyone gets hit by another player because of lacking flinch free, just laugh and relax. They are not hitting you they are hitting some code in a machine.
Power Charge description: Boosts attack, stun power, and renders you immune to flinching while attacking or charging.
