I'm not sure if you can do like 10,000 sever damage to his tail when it is cold and it will pop off when it turns heated to 1 sever damage, or if it only takes tail-cut damage while heated, but I can assure you it is very weak and easy to sever.
The hard part is landing those stuns / immobilising him in the small window of opportunity you have when it is glowing red hot.
Might be easier with Slicing ammo on an LBG / HBG though, I suppose.
So it needs to be hot/sharp and not knocked over, theoretically.
Can anyone show a Glav tail cut on a downed Glav to deny this? Most google searches for glav tail cuts involve flashy cuts on attacking glavs.
Also: damage done to an unbroken tail that is currently hot/sharp will count as damage towards both the break and the cut. Again according to this report.
Take a bumerang with you on the hunt... Hammer does damage to the tail so you only need 1 slicingdamage. Bumerang is your friend then
