dont ever choose armor for its elemental resistance, pick the one with the best skills for your build, make sure you have health boost 3, and if you want some elemental resistance make sure you eat a vegi meal, and use the ice resistance mantle.

Use defender gear until you clear shara.

This. Later in game you will even get access to Hard version of Elemental Resistance Deco which gives you Resistance +20 and Defense +10 in 1 lv4 Slot

bad advice, you should asap craft master rank armor when you start iceborne even if it have bad skills.

Barioth armor has a good skills especially for longsword. Just add health boost 3 and you're good to go.

But, if farming barioth is a pain for you, just mine ores, kill some gajau & wulg, and forge high metal armor. I used this set for starter at MR until I get full set of Velkhana, for I am using bow.

Probably the worst advice I've heard, along with spend money now because you'll get it later. The 20+ elemental resistance you get from a Hard Ele Res deco is offsetted by the penalties of your armor. There's a few reasons why you'd want the elemental resistance.

A. The Elemental damage is reduced by a percentage based on the resistance you have. Having 10 or 20 elemental resistance is usually the difference between being one shotted, or three shotted. Velkhana is similar to Kirin in this regard. She hits hard (not as hard as that unicorn bastard). But the majority of the damage comes from elemental. You can bring your Ice Mantle, but it's on a timer that will be much shorter than the first fight.

B. The elemental resistance also affects how long you are effected by the elemental blights. Where 20 stops the blights out right. If you are a stamina heavy weapon, taking 20+ ice resistance in velkhana is a must unless you got a HH rocking All Blights Negated backing you up. Almost every single Velkhana attack will cause Ice Blight. And she even leaves many lingering fields of ice which causes it.

Anyways OP. Which ever one suits you best. I personally ran into the velkhana fight with Barrioth gear as a HH main. Beotodus works pretty well too... if you don't mind hunting that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ monster.

If you're merely worried about the ice/blight, just eat the veggie meal at the cat canteen. It will give you a large elemental defense boost and you just pop a max potion to get the hp you were missing.

Just equip some ice resist deco so you get at least 5 ice resist, then eat for elemental resist L = 20 ice resist total = no more ice blight. No need nullberries. Ain't nobody got time for ice blight.

... just equip resuscitate, it functionally annuls ice- and waterblight. The barioth armor is pretty bad.
The biggest boost in straight survivability is just equipping health boost 3.

I just used a narga/rathalos/narga/odogaron/narga mix with some utility like health boost, free meal and resuscitate gemmed in. Good ♥♥♥♥, carries you to the endgame (master's touch mix).

I will agree with Resucitate if you're a weapon that cares about stamina. Otherwise another solid choice is evade window (assuming you're competent at I-framing attacks.)

Anyways... Master's touch is only worth while if you can constantly hit weakpoints to maintain purple sharpness or true crit. To a speed runner, it means quiet a bit. To an average player, or someone who fights in a group, it means ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if they don't have either

Protective Polish if you can stay on the monster. Or just grab some other useful set bonus.

Disagree on the first statement, the stamina debuffs are major annoyances regardless of the weapon. You sprint, you roll, you try to stick to the monster. With a blight, this absolutely burns through your stamina. If your weapon is relying on stamina it's of course even worse, but it's an easy addition and very comfy. It's not like elemental defense actually does that much, it's 0.5% reduction per 1 point (nerfed by 50% compared to the older titles, completely unnecessary). You aren't turning OHKOs into 3HKOs or anything like that. It's a very minor difference unless you compare the extremes. It's been mathed out. The actual selling point is the blight immunity at 20+, the little damage reduction is just the finishing touch.

MT is worth it anyway. It isn't just about maintaining your ten(?) units of purple as a speedrunner with the zorah ls, it affects more casual play, too. Generally you use it with white anyway, purple is kinda not so good after its nerf in MH Gen.
Like what would you even go for instead in terms of other setboni that'd lock you out of MT? Or alternative offensive skills, for that matter? Most setboni are either garbage, outclassed ((True) Razor Sharp) or for specific weapons (and LS ain't one of them). And the Kaiser armor is pretty good so it's not like you can make an actually more damaging set by replacing these pieces. If you rather want defensive skills, it still leaves much room: The armor has good slots and you still have 2 other armor pieces and the charm slot (which became really good in Iceborne).
Don't forget that tenderizing mediocre hitzones can turn them into weakspots and that this is a set that is good by default, but just gets better the more you improve as a player.

Like look at this made it in like a minute - lots of damage, lots of utility. Clearly enough affinity for a loooooong bar of white. Basic decos. Slap challenger on the mantle or whatever.

Polish? Nah bro leave that to the dual blade guys.

Anyways, that wasn't even what the topic is about. Health boost 3 and resuscitate, that's all what the OP needs for much more comfortable runs.
