Some mantles have better slots than others too. Not all of them are lvl 1 deco slots some have higher levels. Like slotting two divine blessing on Rocksteady makes you pretty damn tanky for the duration. Also makes the Tool Specialist skill very powerful now. Glider Mantle should be mentioned too for having really good uptime and two lv4 deco slots.
Man I feel like I've been missing out lol
Time to start doing optionals more😁
People are making the mistake that they're forgetting that Monster Hunter World is a full game filled with hundreds of hours of content etc, quests and rewards and unlockables etc - it HAS to have offered something, otherwise people wouldn't have kept playing it, right?
It is as you say, Mantles are extremely useful, as are a bunch of other base game unlocks (canteen ingredients, Palico gadgets, Health / Affinity / Cleanser boosters, Botanical Research fertilisers / harvest box upgrades, even some charms etc)
While you can totally have the mindset that rushing to Master Rank, grabbing top tier gear and then returning is a sound plan, it does kind of skip a sort of experience / progression system that, in my opinion, makes a game a lot more engaging and satisfying to play through to the bitter end, but that's just me.
One of the best Mantles in Iceborne is the Glider Mantle. Once upgraded, it has two Size 4 decoration slots on it. With this, you can do a lot for the 180 seconds you can wear it for. It already makes jump attacks and mounting more potent, but then it just gets better.
For example, you can slot in Defence Boost 6, or two Elemental Resistance 3 skills (could be good for Namielle, Water Res 3 Thunder Res 3 in a single mantle) etc etc. There's a lot of use for that thing, so if you see people wearing it, that's why.
I can't imagine what running through Iceborne with basically no mantles and boosters, or even canteen ingredients fleshed out feels like, lol. Must be quite an experience, for sure. The Cleanser booster and its upgrade alone makes annoyances like Viper Kadachi and anything capable of inflicting Iceblight so much less of a hassle, too!
its so underestimated, guess because mantle decos are new. i always play glider+ele resist, has near 100% uptime and you get free big deco slots.
Long uptime plus deco slots means you basically can get anywhere from 1-4 additional skills up during a hunt for like 3/5 of the time; plus any claw attack have the potential of being a mount is great, with glider I can turn an SA into a Glaive
Personally I go for Elemental mantles now. Both have high duration and short cool down. At least 1 will be useful in each fight unless I fight something like Tziki or Kulu Yaku.
Then pack them with Destroyer jewels so I can destroy parts.
Turning your Glider Mantle + Impact / Elementalproof Mantles into being ALMOST a Rocksteady too when worn is sooooo damn tasty to think about. I'd never forget to put my mantles on again!
Das it mane. All of my Xproof mantles are crammed full of double Destroyer Jewels. +20% part damage on top of whatever softening already does? Monsters don't stay intact for very long around me
Yup, I designed the build to ALWAYS have a mantle up. And with coalscenance (too lazy to spellcheck) and immunity mantle, it gets gross.
