♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, why do Iceborne monsters have so much HP?!
Like, they don't even hit that hard, but it feels like they have more HP than Xeno!

They actually do, for the most part. Beotodus has around the same HP as Xeno (14,616 vs 15,150 for Assignged quest Xeno, according to Kiranico).

By 2-Star MR quests, I don't think any monster has less health than Xeno.

So my problem is that, generally, wouldn't you just assume that monsters are going to be tougher in an expansion where you get gear that solves that? I don't understand the revelation you're having. Obv they are going to have more HP. In the end it doesnt even matter, it's just a number bloat because your stats go up and so does thiers.

All these people whining about hunts taking 15 mins clearly never played the previous games. Most hunts would take at least 30 mins. Beats killing it in 5 mins, how boring is that.
I think that's more an experience gap than anything. I remember LR Qurupeco taking 40 minutes when I was new to the series; I went back to play 3U somewhat recently and finished that hunt in like 15 or so, which is about how long most hunts took during story progression in IB.

Yeah they bloated the monster HP too much, dragging the fight too long for no reason and it is getting boring. Even with my Gold Rath CB with Attack Boost 4 + Agitator 4 the hunt still takes me 15 minutes solo for T2 Tempered monsters, compared to HR T3 Tempered hunt only last for 5 minutes using Diablos Tyrannis II.
Nah, hp increase is far from bad. Hunts were way to fast before, now it actually takes effort.

When you get to endgame gear hunts will take 5 minutes again. So cherish that long hunts. Ps4 here with Safi weapons.

It's because of the Clutch Claw mechanic, the idea is that you are supposed to be using it more often in fights to open up weak spots and slam monsters into walls. Starting Iceborne on PS4 I had the same issue, until I got used to the Clutch Claw. Fights that used to last 40 min have been cut down to 20 min because of this. It makes lower rank fights trivial but is almost a necessity when getting into Master Rank.

Yeah, but their damage output doesn't scale to their health - that's the part that weirds me out.

The monsters aren't any more dangerous - they just take longer to kill.

I'm still using my HR Y armor, and I'm not having any problems taking hits even though there's Master gear with +50 def on each piece available for me to craft.

From the way the vanilla game progressed, I would have expected Master Rank monsters to have stupidly high attack, but only slightly higher HP, so the fights wouldn't actually take longer as long as you played well, but would punish you if you played poorly. That's pretty much how it's been until now.

Sure, in ye olden days of previous games the monsters would take about half an hour to hunt, but they would also put you on a cart in a matter of seconds if you were under-geared :P

Wait till you get to end game.

Honestly, End game of MHW (Non evvent ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, that wasnt true end game), like augment grinding and elder grinding for those augment stones, made hunts last for what, 1 minute?

What a fun time...

Insteado fthat 1 minute, now turn that into 4 minutes or so with an everage of end game geared people in a quest.

Thats 3 more minutes of actually playing the game.

Thats 1 minute less then a non over timed match in rocket league :/ Get the jizz? I found it personally boring we stunlocked mons in vanilla MHW for a minute only to see it limping afterwards. XD

Like another guy mentioned they did it to force or at least strongly encourage you to use the clutch claw, and make soft points. Thankfully once your geared up enough with some weapons you can more or less ignore it again, and still kill them in a reasonable timeframe.

The only thing about Master Rank that annoys me is that some monsters have some really long "Desperation" attack sequences as they start to reach the HP Range where you can capture them. I mean, I get it but some monsters just spend so much time flopping around with giant, rapid fire swings that unless you're exceptionally good it's just better to wait it out and that gets tiresome after the second or third time of watching them flail around an entire area.

Look at Endgame weapons. Gold Rathian types, for example.

The DPS on these weapons is insanely high. Safi weapons, coming later, are even higher.

Combine weapon damage to our decos and the boost they give us and you start to see we can now do absurd damage in short periods of time. So to compensate for this enemy HP was inflated

It seems like they have more HP, but it's actually that we can now do more damage and that compensation comes in early before we gain access to our superior weaponry/builds

Run a Gold Rathian weapon like CB or Switch Axe against a max star hunter rank monster. Then run one of those weapons against a max star master hunter monster. You'll see how absurdly fast the hunter rank dies and how little damage you're taking.

Because you have way stronger weapons, upgrade your ♥♥♥♥.

That first Barioth was my most difficult battle. Had 5 minutes left on the clock. Was smooth sailing after that fight since by then I had a full set of Master rank gear with weapon.

Because MR Weapons (and skill rebalance) hit like trucks
