Wich, well, I'm useless with this weapon. I can memorize the charge blade combo no problem, but the kinsect... forget it .
That might explain some things.
Well, at one time when MH was just released with online play, mounting was a relatively new mechanic and IG was probably the best way to perform it. If you didn't personalise your shoutouts, it would say "I've mounted the monster" in your default language.. which in french was "Je suis monté".
However, Mounting had diminishing returns back then i believe.. and just like how bad aerial IG users has it's share of dislike in MHW, it was unfortunate that the french are called out for being the bad IG players just by how outlandish "Je suis monté" sounded to the english speaking audience. It became a stereotype that french IG users were just bad players.
TL:DR, There are bad players everywhere. The bad French Aerial IG users became a meme because of the auto-shoutout "Je suis monté" because they were constantly spamming aerial attacks and weren't doing optimal DPS.
