Is handicraft LV5 still a thing?
Most of the time when inspecting other hunters equipment, i rarely find handicraft builds anymore, not like pre-iceborne. I read somewhere that differences between purple and white doesnt matter too much. Is it obsolete, or is still relevant?

Purple sharpness adds 7% bonus Raw damage and almost 20% more elemental damage over white.
So in essence sharpness truly matters only for Elemental weapons builds.
Depending on wich aditonall shaprness management skills you get you may not need more sharpness.
Some wepons also dont have purple so all handicraft does is makes white last longer wich is not worth it.

you should find handicraft on builds using acid glav or shara weapons combined with the usual master's touch build. gs, hammer, hh, ect are the more common weapons to use these branches. otherwise its not really a necessity with a lot of the other builds that only need to keep white sharpness long enough to last until the stage transition where you can resharpen on your mount.

most of the time its to bring weapons into purple sharpness, which for 1-2 points is often well worth it for the damage increase it brings and in the right set even 10 units can last a good long while.

its especially useful for elemental damage focused builds.

Personally I don't use Handicraft on my elemental bow builds, but that's just me.

WHAT?! SCANDALOUS!
Handicraft didn't get any less expensive to build, and purple sharpness isn't a huge damage increase. It's simply more efficient to keep white sharpness and build damage in some other way.

for non speed running build sure. it'd be better to run something like earplugs instead of handicraft. otherwise for a 3 slot skill, if you already got flinch free for multi not much else worth putting in there for some weapons.

it used to be you'd jsut put non elemental boost in there THEN handicraft but the HC is more worth it if it takes you into purple than using something like non ele boost.

No, it's better to run something like Agitator, or even Attack Boost. You're comparing an offensive skill to a defensive one.

NEB is almost the exact same damage increase as purple sharpness for raw weapons and only costs a single level 2 deco slot. If you build for Handicraft/purple sharpness you need to keep your weapon purple or else it's a waste of skills.

Purple Sharpness prevents your weapon bouncing when you make a mistake on some monster parts.

If the problem is the weapon bouncing, just use Mind's Eye. It only costs one level 2 deco slot and the weapon will never bounce, as opposed to multiple level 3 deco slots and the weapon maybe not bouncing.

I believe you have several options in regards to sharpness:
1) handicraft (gives bonus damage as purple) (good, if you have lots of purple or your weapon really needs it, cause of little white sharpness)
2) master's touch (what many people are running) (good for 100% builds, which every person should have really, it's 3 main crit skills)
3) quick sharpenning/scale fish/protective polish (haven't seen this one)
Hare+Guu! Jan 31, 2020 @ 10:55pm
It's expensive to slot in 3-4 pieces of handicraft. Each one requires a 3slot. And since it's an offensive skill, it doesn't stack with crit eye on 4slots, etc. And people prefer items that will increase their crit to 100% when they use their max attack + 0 affinity weapon for their master's touch builds. Like agitator or attack 4.

oh i just meant in general, if your not speed running you dont have to absolutely max out for damage, stuff like earplugs can be a damage increase as well. no sense in having agitator points if when the monster yells you get stuck on your feet. while your stuck there, im doing damage :P

or if im nice im smacking you so you can do damage.

Slap on a Mind's Eye jewel so you'll never be deflected and you're good to go.

considering you can (eventually) upgrade the Handicraft Charm to give you 4 levels of Handicraft its not too bad to build really. There are plenty of options for Handicraft on gear and level 4 decos including Handy/Vit so its not too bad.
It is for certain builds.
