It's what it's there for. You can set it to keyboard type to use the F1-F4 1-8 keys
And if Extremoth is spamming meteors, then you are not learning the mechanics.
A heads up, emotes are tied to your item loadout. If you change to another saved loadout it will change your emote assigments, so save the loadout you plan to use with your emotes and wheel set how you want them.
As for the timing, this video is helpful: https://youtu.be/-WC3DSQOg_g
Capcom added a setting that lets you bind 1-8 without having to hit a function key first. You can find this setting in the controls section. It is called "one key keyboard shortcuts".
It's just the input method is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. It's like a QTE but you need button combinations and there's no button input. There's so much jank to how this is done. Emotes don't proc if you're moving or if you're weapon is out. You're given seven seconds to sheathe and prime the emote before the meteor falls, depending on what you're counting down from, (ie: the map going white, behemoth's body going down, or the mini flinch) and it DOES NOT FACTOR IN LAG.
I'm gonna try that keyboard shortcut thing.
Yes, when Behemoth starts the cast, you must sheathe your weapon, look for nearby comets (if you don't already know where one is), decide whether you can safely reach one in time, and if not, open the radial menu to the appropriate page and wait. I only have experience using a gamepad to do it; is it any harder with a keyboard?
The problem I have is, I only play MHW on a gamepad, so for me to do the jump I'll have to sheathe, stand still hold L2 and press Up on the right stick. MnK has it better, just press 1 but the controls are terrible so I'm at an impasse. I'm competent enough to kill it but I lack the mechanical skill to avoid the last few one shots.
I do have a suggestion: switch the radial menu activation style from "push the stick in the direction of the item and release it" to "push R3". It takes some getting used to, but I was convinced to try it, and I have found it's more convenient when the item doesn't actually get used because it turns out you weren't able to use items at that moment - you don't have to move the stick toward the item again, just push it in again. You can even spam the presses until it happens. It may also help when specific timing is required, like this jump.
But why struggle with it when you could just hide behind the Comet when Ecliptic is cast.
The whole problem here is the last few meteors where behemoth breaks the comets. There's 5 of them now and the last 3 only have 1 comet.
