How much affinity to compensate for Anguish's negative value?
I have updated my gear post Nergigante and my sources of affinity are WE3 and 5% from AB4.

sorry but i don't get your question

if your weapons has like -30% affinity then you would obviusly need a +30% to at least break even..

I mean to which number should I push this weapon in order not to loose much damage.

+55% would leave me at 25% if hitting a weak spot. I'm not too sure if I understand how affinity works though. Does this mean 25% chance of landing a crit and NO chance of doing less damage?

Affinity is basically cit chance. If u have 55% affinity and another 25% when hitting weak spot = 80% when u are hitting a weak spot and only 55% if hitting anywhere else.

I'm a bow main, so personally I just hover around 60 to 90 affinity when hitting weak spot, that way I have room for other skills

But, regarding negative values... I would like to know if the chance to do less damage goes away at 0%+ affinity.

You can only score a negative crit if you have negative affinity. At 0 or higher you will never get a negative crit.

Oh, ok. Now I see why my original question might've sounded confusing. Thank you.

You always want to be at around 80% affinity if possible. Anguish, being a GS abd having -30% affinity is worse in every way than wyvern ignition, but for those who don't have it you really want WE3, MM3, and a lot of crit eye to get your crit up.

The ideal build for anguish would be

Anguish - Affinity + Health
Nerg a - 1x attack
damascus b - 3x expert
Drachen - 2x tenderizer
empress b - 1x critical 1x mighty
drachen - tenderizer
Handicraft charm

This lands you
Elemental Airborne
Attack Boost Level 5
Critical Eye Level 5
Maximum Might Level 3
Handicraft Level 3
Weakness Exploit Level 3
Focus Level 2
Tool Specialist Level 2
Critical Boost Level 2

If you have more than one attack jewel, you can do better by swapping out the arms for something else, but overall Anguish is just worse than Wyvern Ignition.

Anguish is 1104 raw, 240 dragon, -30% affinity with 30 hits of white sharp at handicraft 3 and no slots

Wyvern Ignition is 1008 raw, 1109 w/ non-elemental boost, -15% affinity with 40 hits of white at handicraft 3.

Elemental damage is trash due to how the visible multipliers work, so wyvern ignition just beats it in every way, including appearance
You shouldn't be running around with such low affinity at this point. Just get Drachen armor which will almost entirely offset the negative affinity by itself, add at least an affinity augment and fill the rest with WEX, AB4, MM and Crit Boost.

Affinity is essentially your chance to do a Critical or Feeble hit. Positive affinity will do Criticals while negative affinity will cause Feebles.

A critical hit is 25% more damage. So a Weapon with 100 Attack and 10% affinity would do (100) damage 90% of the time and (125) damage 10% of the time this averages
out to about ((100x9)+(125x1))/10 = 102.5 damage per hit.

A feeble hit is 25% less damage. So a similar weapon with 100 attack and (-10%) affinity would do (100) damage 90% of the time and (75) damage 10% of the time which averages
out to about ((100x9)+(75x1))/10 = 97.5 damage per hit.

As you can see every 10% affinity is about a 2.5% increase or decrease in damage depending on whether it is positive or negative. 0.25% damage per affinity percentage

Karma
234 dmg 30% affility
((234x7)+(304.2x3))/10=255.06 avg dmg per hit

Deviljho Devil's Madness
299 dmg -25% affility
((299x7.5)+(224.25x2.5))/10=280 avg dmg per hit

Barroth Shredder 3 960 dmg -20 affinity
960x8)+(720x2)/10= 920 avg dmg per hit

Anjanath HBG Gushing Flamekanone 300dmg -20% affinity
300x8)+(225*2))/10=285 avg dmg

Deviljho Anguish greatsword 1104 -30% affinity
1104x7)+(828x3)/10=1021 avg dmg per hit
