Even when cutting off the tail of a Pukei Pukei I don't get the tail.

I've cut off the tail of Anjanath and Rathians and gotten the tail. Both in quests and from carving the tail material itself when it falls.

But for some reason, no matter how many times I kill a Pukei Pukei, even when I cut off its tail and harvest it, I have never gotten one in my inventory. I have about a dozen of its other materials but I don't have 1 single tail of them.

Is this possibly a glitch of some sort, and does anyone know what I can do in order to get one of these tails?

Desire sensor.

You are not guaranteed the tail from the tail, it has other possible carves. RNG is RNG.

It's counter-intuitive but cutting the tail only gives you a chance at getting a tail. The chances arn't terrible though so you are probably just getting a run of bad RNG.

I believe pukei pukei tail is high rank reward, maybe you're still in low rank.

Damn, I've killed like 9 of them and have cut off its tail like 6 times now. I guess I'll keep trying, I didn't realize cutting off the tail didn't guarantee the tail, I'd think it'd be one of the things that would do that. Thanks for the info everyone.

If you have Pukei investigations, do those, it can increase your chances of getting a tail.

You get more parts from a capture than a kill. It's still random, but more rolls make for better odds.
