Best Heavy Bowgun loadout?;
Hey all,
So I played when the game first came out, left, and just returned after that said hiatus.

With that said, my current loadout is the following:
Nergigante Helm Alpha
Xeno'jiiva Hide Alpha
Xeno'jiiva Claws Alpha
Nergigante Coil Bravo
Xeno'jiiva Spurs Alpha
With an Attack Charm III, and my gun of choice is the Destruction's Fusillade (massive fan of spread ammunition).

Which means I'm getting the following skills:
Attack Boost 6/7
Critical Eye 3/7
Power Prolonger 3/3
Flinch Free 2/3
Blight Resistance 1/3
Critical Boost 1/3
Partbreaker 1/3
And of course that's 3/5 Xeno'jiiva set (active), giving me spare shot.
And 2/5 Negigante, which is not being used, of course.

I'd love to know what the absolute best weapon/equipment is, gems and all, with all the new monsters included? Has it changed much? Is my original build incorrect, regardless? Would love some pointers.

Sounds pretty solid.
I know there are parts from Lunasta and the like that people prefer but I personally liked the Xenojiva bonus too much to replace.

Gonna mention that the most popular weapons drop from Kulve taroth, some incredible diversity on what bullets you can load into some of them. Can't remember the names from the top of my head but it has pretty much all status, no element so you can eqiuip an "Elementalless" dec for a neat damage boost.

Hehe for some reason calling the beta sets bravo cracks me up. If you are a spread ammo fan then the Taroth Glutton R7 is the best.

Massive fan of spread ammunition?

It's your lucky day, Glutton's here to stay.

Thoughts on the Deviljo upgrade path? Thinking about trying the HBG out, but a lot of things I read say it was nerfed (or at least slashing ammo?) at some point and LBG is better? HBG looks like so much fun so I want to try it but a lot of the guides I read are from pre patch.

LOL. My apologies, just got into the habit of that.

I'll take a look, thanks for the recommendation, is this the Glutton that has previously been mentioned? I don't really mess with elementals too much, I just point and shoot. :D

Only if you give RNGesus your first born.

If you like spread then you should definitely try to get the Glutton HBG from Kulve. It is the best spread gun by a literal mile. You also want to check into Lavasioth (whatever that magma fish is) legs for Spread Up (10% more damage on your spread shots). There's a spread decoration, but it's R8 and rare as all get out.

Glutton is definitely ridiculous if you're lucky enough to get it from Kulve.

I'm essentially just looking for the highest possible damage output with the Heavy Bowgun, I haven't done my research on what's the best ammo type, at all, but if it ends up to be coincidentally spread ammunition, then I'll fight Kulve for the rest of my life, I don't really mind.

Well, pretty sure cluster trumps all in that regard. It seems to feature a lot in "fastest speed run" videos.

Glutton can put down most monsters really, quickly, though. Bonus points if you use an impact mantle with it to keep the monster staggered and you end up killing a lot of stuff in under 5 mins quite handily.

Sweeeeeet. Thanks!

Personally, not a fan of cluster, I find it a little, eh, weird, for lack of a better term to use.

Would the Spread Up be better than a few attack boosts, however?

the power prolonger btw does nothing for HBG as far as im aware. so you might try to rework your set to grab some of the other useful things like blight res and any piece with flinch free on it.

nergi is a good choice but, i got a better one for ya.

Xeno B Helm
Diablos B chest
Xeno B gauntlets
Xeno B waist
Black diablos B boots

i call this my KO Cannon set. works good with spread shot and normal shot if you got the jewel for spread, you got slots for it. use impact mantle and put a KO jewel in for that 3rd point of KO. use an artillery jewel for any sticky shot you may be packing.

out of bullet? dont feel like reloading? bludgeoner is your friend! run up to the face and use the HBG melee swing to do MORE KO DAMAGE! impress your friends when a monster topples over from a pistol whip.

key thing to remember though, even wtih blight immunity, your still SUPER weak to fire from the Xeno pieces. so avoid all fire damage at all costs.
The thing that really changed since you were gone is that there are way better spread HBGs out now. Namely Taroth Assault Glutton, Taroth Assault Horn and Empress Cannon Ruin.
With Glutton you don't even need Xeno set bonus to run spread. However it's a relic weapon you can only get through a RNG loot pool, so it's not exactly easy to access.
Also Drachen, Teo gamma and Luna armor sets contribute to make HBG even stronger.

HBG is currently one of the top 3 weapons in the game in terms of damage output. LBG is nowhere near as powerful, even with Kulve and Luna guns. It simply doesn't focus anymore on slicing but on other ammo like cluster or spread.

An interesting idea, but unfortunately not really my playstyle. I was tempted by the Nerg set bonus, however, but Xeno's spare ammo is so damn good I almost don't want to give it up. I guess the same can be said about either.

But, yeah, I do need to work something out with the power prolonger, I really don't need it.
