So... the giant kulu yaku
Is just completely stupid. That glowing gem is like a giant wall even if your hit connects, touching near the gem will cause your attack to bounce right off. There are times when he would 360 block my attack then exploit those recovery frames to jump me 100 to 0. He can initiate those jumps almost immediately and they hit like a truck. Play lance and power guard his jumps? You'll still take hits 1/4 of your health. The hit and run tactic is not always reliable, even when you manage to pull it off it's incredibly slow and playing with a party will just make it worse. I SOS flared twice and people withdrew from the quest since it was going on for 30minutes+. His early phases were hard but manageable, the only issue is when he reaches a phase where he grows 3 times it's original size and each time he unleashes that deadly jump attack he would jump halfway across the map back and forth making it impossible for you to chase after him.

Can be easily soloed.
What gear do you have? How much def do you have?
Fully upgraded/augmented?
Are you utilizing buffs? Mantles?

i believe you're better off solo with fortify.

Lance or GunLance, poke his tail.
Once your aim is on point the "wall" is a non-issue in the fight.

(also the no-bounce gem / skill from weapon helps a lot, forgot it's name.. eye something)

He's meant to be hard, thats the point. His damage reaches AT level towards the end. Its a prelude to how much Behemoth will rock your world.

My only complaint about that fight is that you only get to do it once. I beat him my first try with no faints but it was a very fun hunt that I'd like to do again.

I mean, his questline unlocks a monster that's going to hand you your *** if you're struggling with the crystal holding kulu. May as well hold off until you're more prepared, that quest isn't going anywhere until you complete it.

And then I was all sad when I found out you could not fight the Kulu F-you ever again.

solo he has 6000 HP or so. just use a GS with quick draw and increased dodge distance and WE+1. less turtling more quick hits with high damage. good for escaping his jump attack. alternatively, use anti-stun jewels/charm.
