is lbg even good?

Thing with bowguns is, you need to pick single ammo type you want to use and build yourself around it(including building correct LBG). Most things you'll need for LBG are HR stuff and rare decos, so it'll take time before you can make something reliable.

However true strength comes from utility LBG provides.

You have statuses on demand, healing, some buffing, damage is just a cherry on top.

light bow gun is SSS tier in terms of solo play and SS tier in coop. You just gotta know how to properly use it or else its as useful as a horn player in solo

everytime i try kirin with lbg, i notice dps sucks and return to glutton

not sure if it's good or not but I solo'd 90% of the game using LBG with pierce ammo, it may not be good but it is as viable as any weapon

as a pro gun user i can say for sure that there are far more viable HBG than LBG. that said LBG does have its place in the world, their wyvern blast mines are great at causing random trips and flinches and a great addition to a big sleep bomb wakeup. imagine 12 of them + 8 bombs and the best wakeup hit weapon you can get in your group. thats allota damage. whereas HBG sucks for wakeup hits as all we get is the wyvern shot. which while powerful isnt as all round useful and leave the user open for awhile.

It's true that in terms of DPS they're usually below other weapons, but they're certainly not useless bad.

You should probably tell us wich LBG's you're using so we can properly advice you on how to build them since bowguns in general are very particular about the types of ammo that they're good with and how you should build them

Seems like LBG is for long range and HBG for spread 3, pierce (only on big monsters) and status effect. Not everyone wants to fight up close up enemies or play support. And pierce isn't good for all monsters.

I just started running a Wide Range LBG build with Karma and it's like I'm raid healing again, except when needed I can dish out stupid crazy damage.

Sometimes, my friends, it's not all about being "top deepz". You gotta help others out as well.

You need to use them properly.
I use heavy and light almost evenly.
It just depends on the monster and the strategy I go with.
LBG tends to be more mobile and have rapid fire. Which can be really strong.
HBG is almost always strong in general, but doesn't do you much good if it doesn't suit the situation.

LBG is easy to use and easy to master. You don't need too much time to be reasonably competent and useful in a team hunt. That is why one can see lots of randoms using LBG in a KT hunt (and LBG is the most effective weapon against KT)

If one is only concerned about DPS, well, LBG is obviously a no-go. That doesn't mean LBG is useless. At least for me, I can still hunt down a tempered elder dragon in around 4 minutes and 30 minutes with an LBG and not using heroics; certainly not the fastest time, but very safe and still reasonably fast. So far, except for Behemoth, an LBG can handle all the mosters well (maybe the more difficult ones are the AT Vaal and Tempered Deviljo, but by default they are difficult).

Perhaps because of my previous fights with Rajang, Tigrex and Fatalis in MHP2G, I am always a bit conservative and defensive even in MHW. LBG is actually quite suitable for a player like me who like defensive and conservative playstyle. Maybe when Iceborne is out one may know whether DPS builds can sustain.
