This works for all monsters that are not Elder dragons. Elder Dragons can't be caught.
All though the Fish monster Juarydos and similar type drops more and more often. So then you have to rely on him limping or when he has a Death skull above his head.
To see these you need to take up a lot of footprints and what not from the monster.
now i appreciate the quick reply but i dont think this is it, cause like i said i didnt even need to use more bombs after the first set of two, i just had to put him in a second trap (pitfall in this case)
1: Limping and the skull are not always certainties of the monster being capturable (though they are good indicators). As far as I know the only way to have a 100% capture rate is to wait until they go back to sleep after limping home.
2: Did you use two Tranq Bombs after the first trap, or just one?
3: Was the Monster still in the Shock Trap while you were tranqing? If they wriggle free of the trap before the second bombs activates then it would make sense for it to immediately be caught once it landed in the Pitfall.
4: Were you using a weapon that added a damage over time effect, like poison? I've no idea how that would influence tranq bombs if at all but I'm just curious.
In fact it's always better to use tranqs before traps unless you think the monster will move from where you are.
i just did caped a Tobi using a pitfall trap FIRST and it worked on the first go, so i think its more i was just short of the shocktraps duration not necessarily i did more damage cause the only damage i did between the first two traps with the pukie was a single redpit to lure it over to me
again, if it's not working you're missing one of the items in zefar's post.
i've been capturing monsters fine with a single trap. Without watching a replay of you attempting a capture, I couldn't tell you what you're doing wrong.
my guess is you don't get the second bomb out fast enough. try to use your bombs before laying the trap.
To reduce the number of variables:
- Make sure the monster is limping, skull icon, or naturally sleeping
- Wait till the monster stops moving and use all 8 tranq bombs
- Trap after tranq
If this is a successful cap, then it might not be so much as an issue in needing a second trap, but that you're taking too long to tranq. But if it's not successful, then there might be a problem.
