Does Hunting Horn buffs really make a huge difference? Any tips on how to use/play the HH?
I wanna try something different and seems like HH can be fun but I just need to know more about this weapon and how to play it

there isnt an alternative to them.

SNS can possibly be a better healer and contribute some solo dps but HH can make everyone's dps go up.

exactly this: If you buff my GS atk up to 1650+ while making me immune to roars ill love you forever!

Sadly im no tooter anymore, other weapons grew on me ^^"
i dont think there's a horn with earplus and attack up large songs

HH choice is very monster dependent.

General Party build: Deep Vero (deviljho) or Lunestra HH "Styx"
For Deep Vero, the main draws is that it has Attack and Defense up XL, and very good damage overall. Lunestra's HH with Styx flavor is extremely good in a party setting with Defense up XL, Attack up L, Stamina use reduction, and Negate all Wind Pressure. The Lunestra+Xeno horn has insane sharpness too.

Vs. Kirin or Vaal: Teostra's Orphee
The key song is the status ailment prevention. It can prevent stuns and blight

Vs. Kushala: Xeno Manshena or Lunestra HH "stylx"
Negate all Wind pressure. That is all.

Solo horns: Bazelreid Rookslayer (Bagel HH), Taroth Pipe "Sleep", Lunestra HH "Blaze"
Bagel and Taroth HH both are really solo oriented with heals and regen songs. Pair it with a Vaal Hazak set and laugh as you just never take damage. Lunestra's Blaze HH is great damage and with "melody extension" song you can just spam the crap out of that all day and never play anything else.

I find earplugs to be a great force multiplier especially for monsters that spam roars like blos, It also prevents 2 turn kills like Teostra or Kushala Doara's roar+pounce. Attack boost is great too, I think vero has an XL version, iirc, the best ones atm are the Lunastra versions.

Looks like deep vero is the best overall horn so I'm gonna go with that
Empress Blaze is probably better than Vero currently unless you really need the songs other than Attack Up XL.

HH is not meant for playing solo, and it's not meant for speedruns. It's a support weapon
That's just wrong though. Why do people keep repeating the same thing?

"Blaze" is indeed better, damge wise, then Deep Vero if you can get 3/3 Critical Boost since "Blaze" gets 100% Affinity with MM and WE. Deep Vero will come back as the best damaging horn when we get the Drachen set because it'll have enough affinity to offset its negative affinity.

it's not a big difference, but, it is a difference, nonetheless. plus, "Blaze" has a really good recital fodder with Meldoy Effects Extended.

he's only wrong about HH not being for solo play. it is a support weapon.

(hh on tempered elders...solo..seems immensely tough..)

HH on Tempered Elders is ezpz. i can beat them all in under five minutes, but Luna and Vaal just because they have a bunch of health.

@OP: if you want a good, generalist horn, Empress Roar "Styx" is probably the best all around horn that doesn't need any additional skills to work really well.

i would recommend picking up these horns: Empress Roar "Blaze", "Ruin" and "Styx", Teostra's Orphee, Deep Vero. you can look into the status horns if you want to go that route, the most worthwhile ones are Taroth Pipe "Paralysis" and Taroth Pipe "Sleep", if you don't mind modding it in; Baan Horn otherwise. the other horns aren't really worth making or using, unless you just want them. Datura Horn is the best for poison, but, it's songs are... underwhelming. Heavy Bone Horn II is the second best choice for a non-elemental boost, unless you get Taroth Pipe "Sleep".

That's what horn maestro and encoring is for - now that you can change equip in camps, there is no reason not to buff when a mob is about to fly away, change equip and come back with another buffy tooting device ^^

It's not always practical, but i have it seen done by several tooters that i got lucky enough to play with, its pretty obvious when its suddenly conga drums instead of airpipes next to your face xD

I tried HH solo last night for 10 minutes before going to sleep and man I suck. Tried to do the songs while fighting and got my azz kicked. It'll probably be better when I play in a group cause my team mates can distract the monsters but is it acceptable if I just buff everyone and then attack or should I play the song while attacking at the same time?

The advantage HH has over hammer is it's reach. You can recite and encore under the legs (one of the safest spots) and still reach the head.

Imo "corner dooting" is as fun-less as it is inefficient.

You don't need to physically connect when tooting (and encoring). You can waddle around the monster while you play your songs and still pull damage. The only reason to swing your weapon is to store up songs. While tooting the direction you move changes how you swing your horn for the next song. There is horizontal, vertical, vertical with ground impact and hilt hitting.

You can test that in the training area, as there are no requirements to hit anything to store notes~

It takes a while to get used to, but hiding beneath a monster, as venus said, is a totally viable tactic to blast the belly with sonic waves ^^

Dooting boosts morale, which is better than any buff :D
But pls dont corner horn.

Ofc when you run out of songs xD But the only reason for me always was "i want a song" - damaging the mob was the bonus that came with it, not the other way around ^^"

Check out that one, i watched it when i got MHW and started with HH here. Turns out, only a couple of missions later i'd just smash a giant sword in monsters faces - so meh xD
