This game pretty much invented the genre. Yet it's still the best.
Closest game i ever played in the genre to be even remotely as good as Monster hunter whas Soul Sacrifice.
But preaty much all other imitators jsut feal so mediocre or tedious.
Often lack monster wariety or force you to hunt the same msotner several times jsut to progress the story and at the same time and also often lack any weapon impact.

Why is it so hard for other companies to nail what makes Monster hunter so good?

the genre of ARG? it 100% did not, best also? debatable, its fun but it is very much a boss rush, which does ultimately have its limits.

edit: apparantly steam makes elipses into links

Cause Monster Hunter takes the story of "slay the dragon" to it's rawest form, and just works off of that.

I think its in its own genre. Also the games are not RPGs you don't have any XP or levels or even role playing. That is all stats are gear dependant. Specifically they are Monster hunting games. Any game that's about Mostly fighting boss like enemies and crafting new gear from there body parts fits this category. They also usualy have 4 player coop.

And there are a bunch of them.
Toukiden
God Eater
Fredom Wars
Dountless
Soul Sacrifice
And problby a handfull of other games relesed only in Japan.
There whas this one about hunting Virusses or Bacteria inside a body as a srinked down hunter.

exp is not needed for a game to qualify as an rpg, rpg literally stands for roleplaying game, games in which you are put into a position in a story are rpgs, IE legend of zelda are classic rpgs (ARPGS actually, which is the same genre as monhun, though they focus more heavily on the rpg)

Playing MHW on that backward garbage ugly client steam was a huge mistake, I lost all my progression for an unknown reason. I was HR 40 , my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gears and my top-tier Katana which I spent hundreds of hours playing to be able to craft them... , now all lost.steam never again.

What katana takes hundreds of hours to make wtf? Maybe you did it in slow mo ? Nothing takes so long in this game.

Soul Sacrifice is great, it's one of the few that doesn't try to be a Monster Hunter but instead works with the basis of the (sub)genre and expands from that. It's different, to put it in simpler terms, not better and not worse.

But some of the others... ugh, I played God Eater first on PSP and then on PC and I think I won't be able to start the 2nd one. Freedom Wars was very forgettable overall but I think it had some interesting things? I'm not sure because the only thing I remember about this game is one tiresome fight on a desert and some details of its horrible plot.

I have some hopes on Toukiden but it may be because I only played a demo some years ago. The thing is I have many things to play and little time so when I want a new hunting game because I got tired of World we'll probably be in 2020 with a new MH announced.

The genre of fighting big things, getting mats from them, building new stuff to fight bigger things.
Perfect example of a game who tried to imitate MH would be God Eater, which is not a bad game in itself, but its certainly nothing compared to MH.
There was one more on PS Vita which I can't remember the name of.
