Greatsword tackle question
I can't seem to figure out to use it versus roars and staggers. Tips please.

Thanks

Just gotta time it right before a roar hits you. Watch for a monster's tells like rathalos rearing back its head. Most roars have the monster stop moving and then rearing there head forward.

You need to time it perfectly just like Guard Point on CB or Foresight slash on longword.
You can do it after a roll, or when you are mid charge your GS.

That's what I suspected. I actually think I am doing it too early. Thanks for the help.

Thats a terrible advice for a GS dude.

Timing is everything with tackle. If you want more time within tackle.. try it without focus first

Focus doesn't lower the time you can charge with - it just makes you reach a full charge quicker and lets you hold that charge for a bit.

Sigh.. really? Doesnt it contradict what you said? With focus you have less time for a tackle than without. You need longer to charge.. hence.. means.. more time to tackle.

No, let me elaborate. You're given about 3 seconds to reach a full charge; without Focus lv3, you spend about 2.5 seconds (that's from what I've observed) charging, then you let go of the charge after another 0.5 seconds. With Focus lv3, you reach a full charge after 2 seconds, then you're able to hold that charge for another second. With either setup, you still get the full 3 seconds to hold a charge.

Here's a visual aid if you don't get what I mean:

Without Focus:
[>>> Charge 1 >>> Charge 2 >>> Charge 3 > Charge release]

With Focus:
[>> Charge 1 >> Charge 2 >> Charge 3 >>>> Charge release]

Excuse me bud. But I as GS main ' am well aware of that. What I dont get is why you dont see it that the actual time you have to tackle.. is decreased with focus.

Lets take your example. The >>> >> >>> stands for time to tackle. >> is less time than >>>. Ofc pretty minor but it all depends on miliseconds. I can perfectly feel the difference. I gotta admit.. the last time I didn't use focus 2 with GS was at the beginning.. my first 30 GS hunts at ps4 version release. But I clearly remember the feeling due to my muscle memory buildup.

But you don't lose any time for a tackle at all. As long as you're able to hold that charge, you're able to tackle out of that charge. Try it yourself with and without Focus -- you'll find that the time you're allowed to hold down that charge button is the same.

AAHHH... thats what you mean. Uff... I.. actually only have the vision of an advanced GS dude so I never thought about charging above the optimum.

Well.. in that case you are right. My point still stands tho.

OP was asking for help because he doesnt get it. Focus somewhat increases the skill factor because it still speeds up animations in case he want to play in a advanced way later.. So I advice in case you want to learn to tackle properly ^OP.. dont use focus as long as you dont have the timings in you and learn tackle against diablos. Diablos is the perfect practice partner for stuff like that.

Thats the only advice I have in that regard. I also learned it that way.

Yeah, you usually don't want to overcharge in the case of optimal damage, but it's nice to know that you can choose to wait a little longer to tackle out of it if you need to.

the timing isn't hard as learning to roll through roar
well there is few monster that didn't need to build up for roar like instant roar ( jho, anja, uragaan, radobaan for example )
