how do stars work?

In the monster field guide monsters have stars next to fire, water, lightning ect. I have no idea what these denote. help

It's basically the weakness of the monster. The more stars, the more weak it is to it. And then a red X basically means it's completely immune to it.

also () means different monster states, say covered with mud or gold.

[Prometheus]

Its my understanding 3 stars means takes extra damage from the element. 2 star is neutral. 1 star takes reduced damage from the element. Red x is immune.
