Deviljho vs Kadachi Strikebow
Is Kadachi Strikebow powerful enough to deal with Deviljho (at The Food Chain Dominator)?
First of all, I'm new to the game series (didn't play MH before MHW) and I'm also new to bows. I didn't use bows before meeting Deviljho, and played only with hammer and long sword.
So I've been trying to hunt Deviljho using Kadachi Strikebow for several times. And almost each time it took 20+ minutes before I got fainted 3 times.
Therefore I wonder why this happens. Is it because my gameplay is very poor and I have develop my skills? Or maybe the Kadachi Strikebow is just not powerful enough to kill 7-star Deviljho comfortably and in appropriate time (less than 15 minutes) if your playing is far from excellent?

Main question:
Are you using coatings?

The majority of bow's power comes from coatings. If you're not using them, you're not using the weapon to it's full extent.

The tobi bow is one of the if not the best lightning bows in the game. So i think you just need more practice. It depends A LOT on your build and your playstyle. I'm pretty sure a very skilled hunter can kill deviljo in 15min with any r7 or r8 bows in the game.

use hazak velos 2, jho weak to sleep, and its the best dragon bow while kadachi is only 2nd best
or you can stay using longsword, its one of the best matchup again jho

i prefer the dragon bone BOW. It has very high dragon damage, and it also have paralyses coating which you follow up with KO using arch shot. But it don't have power coating, so you have to use close range coating for the whole game. [power coating give 30% damage increase and close range give 20%].[Also Taroth 'queen' bow hit harder with power coating compare to dragon bone BOW with close range]

If you want to use thunder BOW the Taroth ''thunder'' bow would be a better option.

There is a trick vs deviljho where if u deal enough damage on his chest, he will do a fall back follow by an front attack, if you land enough damage when he is doing the front attack he will fall back and give you a big opening to deal damage.

i can kill him around 3 min[with an optimal build]

use either your most powerful lightning bow or dragon bow, deviljho is equally weak to thunder and dragon so you can choose whichever has more raw and element

don't forget to use everything at your disposal
vine and shock traps, poison cloud, flash pod, large barrel bomb

thanks everyone for the responses!
as I understood, good hands are more important than good weapon, so currently it's me (not the bow) who is to blame :)
will try to fix it

you may not have the right build for that bow. since you're new i assume you dont have many decos or even those new powerful armors.
you can start off with this build.

http://honeyhunterworld.com/mhwb/?281,67,60,80,56,54,59,aff,aff,0,9,0,0,9,9,0,30,0,0,35,0,0,58,0,0,30,0,0,3

if you have spread deco instead of forceshot you can swap lavasioth legs b with black diablos legs b. deviljho has really bad hitzones. normally his head is where bows want to aim for which is hard to hit. when angry his chest becomes a weakspot.
also using dash juice really helps with bow builds. if dash juice is expensive for you you can mushroomancer 3 and item prolonger 3 on a seperate equipment set and just buff with that set and then switch to your bow set in the tent.

to be fair deviljho is one of the monster that I hate to hunt.
I only managed to solo it, after completing the hunter of the elder dragons, and putting my hands on the vaal hazak set.

I dont now if is the set that did the job, or if I managed to "git gud"

As a bow user I take very few hits, and when I do, mostly of the time, the set skill to regen all the hp (no only the red part) do the job.

pot now is for only major slip up

also, don't be afraid of the time limit.
take your time

the first time that I hunted each elder dragon, I finished it with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Is better finish the hunt, even if with only 1 minute left, than carting your way out.

And if you're unable to kill it before time is up, at least you managed to survive that long, and hopefully is more capable to predicting what the monster will do

Even with the right equipment jho is still a high hp monster with small weakpoints and high defense/resist.

20 minutes is not far from here without practice

Devil jho is more like an elder dragon but isn't classified as one.

I prefer to fight DJ with lance. Can block all of his BS and just keep on poking.

not to mention counter poke on the roars. since i got the best thunder lance in the game i've been deco farming to get a really good thunder lance all setup. need more ironwall jewels though.

The Tobi bow is technically the second best lightning bow (best is Taroth Arrow Thunder). However, it has VERY bad stats. As a result, most of the time you will do more damage by using the monsters second weakest element instead if you don't have the KT thunder bow (and a free element set to use it).

Against Deviljho, your best choice would be the Hazak Velos II. He is equally weak to both Dragon and Thunder, and the Hazak Velos II is much much stronger than the tobi bow.

Taroth Arrow Thunder is roughly 20% better than Kadachi strikebow.

Alternatively, the Anja Arch III might do even more than the Hazak Velos II. The Fire bows have stupidly high stats, so in spite of Deviljho being weaker to Dragon, it's possible the Fire just does more anyway.

Taroth Arrow Thunder is roughly 20% better than Kadachi strikebow.
yeah taroth thunder bow has great numbers, but its reliance on free element kinda loses its ease of use, requires a lot more of a focused set for it. its not a bad thing but the guy hasnt killed a jho yet so its doubtful he'd have the means to optimize it already.
