Wait what... diablos is a...
HERBIVORE?!?

Just walked up and talked to the Smart Biologist after capturing a Diablos, and he says,
"The Diablos is actually an herbivore. Did you know that? Heh, just a little something I picked up during my research."

But its description in the monster field guide...
"The Apex monster of the wildspire Waste. A menacing, territorial beast that lurks underground. Loud Noises will cause it to lunge out of the sand in search of prey."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a herbivore wouldn't need to lunge out of the sand at loud noises for prey... at most they'd just need to sniff out some plantlife and munch.

I don't know why a herbivore have to be this strong

It's poor wording, but yes, Diablos is a herbivore, that's why when it's tired, it'll go to the Cacti in the area and start munching away.

"Prey" should have had a different word used like "Threats" or something.

Also fun fact. Black Diablos is a female Diablos in heat.

Well, Diablos hunt other minor creatures (you can see that in Diablos intro cutscene when it takes Barroth)... but does not eat them.
It is just extremely territorial.

Diablos are highly territorial and agressive. Prey refers to stuff that just got into its vicinity that it then attacks. Just watch the Turf war with rathian: shortly before Diablos tries to impale it while its flailing on the ground, she manages to evade.

Its also deceptive to sound wich is used to launch them out of the ground when digging or activating the sandfalltrap by triggering the drakes above the cave, the latter indicating its pissed of from the sound above.

You can also spot Diablos eating cactees btw.

IRL Elephants, Rhinos and my god Hippos are more dangerous than any carnivore.

Hey see the size of that one tree in Ancient Forest... xD

Rather than prey it would be more accurate to say hunt intruders to its territory. So yeah probably just a mistranslation or poor choice of wording.

That part about the Black Diablos I knew. Which is kinda funny. Cause last time I saw a black diablos and a regular diablos in the same room together they locked horns and broke their horns off while I just stood to the side with a shield watching. The mating rituals for diablos are... a bit aggressive I must say.

It's like a stereotypical grouchy old man.

Doesn't like the kids playing loud music and wants them to get of its damn lawn

Especially hippos, that's exactly what Diablos made me think of when trying to describe "extremely territorial herbivore"

Excluding Humans, Hippos are the second deadliest mammal on the planet in terms of people they kill per year (roughly 500), with dogs being the highest at around 35,000 deaths caused per year.

I'm full of fun facts today.

See, that's why I like cats. And that's totally not because I'm trying to be in their good books when they take over.
