I have a serious question about bazelgeuse.
What exactly are his opening with Melee weapons? Im coming into the 300 hour mark and I still don't understand how to fight this monster with a melee weapon thats not a lance.

From my experience all his moves that would be punishable are covered by his little exploisive pine cones. I only ever get love taps in here and their until his pinecones run out then hes basicly the most pathetic monster in the world.

With a bow or a bowgun hes an absolute push over you simply stun lock him to death. What exactly is the intended method for fighting this guy with say a great sword or switch axe?

Flash him in the air and use that as an opening, or use a weapon with a reach like longsword and slash him from the side while he plows his head through the ground. If you don't want to risk blowing up, go for damage on his wings. Rockteady mantle will help in at least preventing you from being knocked back from exploding pods. As Bazelgeuse falls to the ground after being flashed, hitting him on the head/tail from the side the pods aren't on will greatly reduce your odds of being blown up.

He has some opening after almost all his attacks since they tend to trigger the scales, only time he is hard to aproach is when he enrages since his scales both drop randomly and explode on their own.

When he's enraged and dropping bombs at will, then you really can't safely approach him. It's that simple, really. Fortunately, he doesn't seem to stay enraged that long, so just wait it out, play it safe, and you'll come out on top in no time.

thats why traps exist , when enraged pit trap it so it doesnt drops loads of bomb

I can reliably hit its head with a charged hammer when it turns around, doing this some times creates more openings. For most playstyles and weapons that are not completety savage and risky, you only have a small window after his explosions to put some damage in and hopefully flinch/trip him to create bigger openings.

I can imagine doing the "turnaround punisher" on him with GS too, but definetly no high charge - but speaking of GS, the shoulder bash could be helpful there, too.
Swichaxe is something i haven't touched in years tho

Be flexible and main multiple weapons lol. Why be a masochist when you can easily beat him with range? Plus playing LBG/HBG/Bow is incredibly fun

Dude I have 3 bow sets and around 7 HBG sets. I have over 50 hunts each with every weapon but the insect glaive and long sword and some weapons inlcuding HBG i have upwards of 200 hunts. I'm the definition of flexiable.

As for everyone else though seems your solutions is what I do already, love taps on his tail and legs with flash pods and traps. I just thought there was more to it then that. Hes a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ monster imo whos only gimick the damn pinecones just anoy me.

For non-tempered, just flash pod it every time it flies up.I imagine greatsword/switch axe is more forgiving since you can avoid blowing yourself up by triggering his pods due to your longer range. Fighting tempered bazelgeuse, on the other hand, is godawful. After the four pods, you're pretty much limited to only aerial attacks... since if you attack him and a pod drops in the middle of your combo, you one-shot yourself (especially if you're playing DB, your short range just means that you're almost guaranteed to kill yourself from a random pod dropping in the middle of your combo if he's not downed).

I think the safest way to melee Bazelgeuse is to find stuff you can do jumping attacks off of (for mounting damage) and try to bring him down frequently. That's what I've found works best for tempered Bazel. However, this is stupidly slow compared to just killing him with a ranged weapon. I literally learned bow just for the purpose of killing Bazelgeuse.

Gun Lance also does wonders against Bagels. As would regular lance.

You know that tall ledge up high Elder's? The one Kush sleeps on?

I've fought him up there on purpose with GL because (non tempered) you can easily tank all the explosions and belly flops, but the small area means they stop wtill completly within stabbing range because of attempting their 500 foot run in a 15 foor area.

It's completly ass backwards and I love it that it works.

Also, while "Just 20 fire resist" probably won't save your life against a bad break vs tempered version. For Normal it's a huge QoL and DPS booster.

DPS because you cant be lit on fire. So no stopping to put yourself out. After capturing bagels during expeditions like a joke a few times, I finally started using fire resistance because of dumb **** like "Haha I did a mount finisher-oh it landed me on scales on the way down.... Well, I guess I'll slowly burn to death while hitting downed Bagels rather than waste DPS".

Devil is the real troll though. Bagels won't carry what you are hunting across half the map, and despite their explosive nature is fair minded enough to spend plenty of time at face punching height.

Now I'm often amused or glad to see bagels show up. But Devil's attention ♥♥♥♥♥ methods and stilt legs can remain obnoxious even after you "git gud".

Bow is fun and very powerful. It'a inxredibly easy to kill B and never get touched using a bow. Also quick kill times. If using an entirely different weapon is something you are against then you just have to find opening and use hit and run tactics. Avoid areas of his body where the scales fall. Non enraged he is much less of a threat. I main IG since its release and B isn't tough with that in your hands. Utilize your range and don't go for your longest combos. Hammer is a great choice for him as well since your main target is his head. As a hammer user being in front of the monster is the best and safest place to be. Yes B please bring that head to me so I can smash the ♥♥♥♥ out of it. Idk man just kill it and do't get one shot. Advice lol
