What has more priority? Elements or Ailments?
Take Kushala for example.
He's weak against Thunder for 3 stars.
But he's also weak against Blast and poison for the same rating.

So what would you say is the better weapon to bring?
A Thunder weapon or a Poison/Blast weapon?

Poison just isnt worth a damn against kushla anymore. In past games it would completely remove his aura it does not do that in this game. Also depends on your weapon but generally Element wins out over everything because elemental damage ignores armor.

You'll accumulate a lot more damage by using elemental weaknesses over ailments as the secondary damage you do with them gets applied on every hit as opposed to abnormal statuses which sort of fill up a gauge until it actually gets applied
I like Blast for the utility personally. Aside from being useful for breaking parts on a larger scale, it also has some stagger capabilities.

I solo mostly though so that might be why I prefer the utilty, since I am relentless with DPS anyway it just allows more opportunity for that - less focus on directly attacking parts when I can just go ham and the AoE from blast takes care of that (aside from severing) and the staggers just let me keep the combos coming, which by proxy keeps the blasts coming. I also like Paralyze for the same reason, but its consistency tapers through the fight.

I think Poison is decent at the start of the game. About halfway through the low rank stuff though it pretty much becomes obsolete, imo. Especially since you can just apply it with items.

Tbh the dps difference between the best and worst weapon is only seconds on a kill.

Play how you want to play. Blast ia straight up damage but procs become too far paced you maybe get 5 procs over a 4 min fight and its locked damage.

Poison can be buffed to last longer but its damage over time so doesnt stagger and blow parts off like blast but will do around the same damage over 4 min or more with certain gear but the blast damage could trip a monster and let you do more damage...

Between the 2 it will be less than a minute in kill time if the monster has the same resistance to both.

The thing is this game is made for multi so taking 1 guy with poison and 1 with blast will be much more damage then 2 of the same kind.

Due to how ez mhw is it doesnt matter what you use even with a fire element sword vrs high fire res you can still kill the monster in good time.

This might change with longer fights if they come though (like the G ranks), especially taking into consideration certain weapons like DBs - but I can't disagree currently.

It depend on your weapon if your weapon is a fast hitting like insect glaive or dual blade elements might be better choice. On the ailments side poison can give a good total damage to 3 star weakness cant remember the exact value sorry. If your a range weapon especially bowgun user i suggests focus on this when the are using there special attack poison can stagger which can sometime cancel attack of monster like teostra super nova.

The only ailment worth going for is para.

One is status, the other is pure damage, personally, I like killing kusha with all the Kirin weapons.
