WHY combat/Lock on is soooo AWFUL
I love hunting in this game I like monsters and encounters as well but the biggest let down of this game is its combat/lock on system
first of why my hunter does not face in direction of his/her lock on?why I have free movement despite being locked on?any one has any fix?
why lock on system is so annoying every time I engage a group enemies its become completely useless

Lock ons are still faster access to your scoutfly GPS than opening up your map.

Plus, again, instant turn to face the monster is a handy trick to have the option for. A trick which has saved my life more than once.

Expecting lock on to help your melee attacks aim is a lost cause, yes.

But going full tantrum "Forget it exists. look at me daddy, I unbound lockon!" is being wrong in the other direction.

i like all these mechanical complaints. its like these people whining dont know the HISTORY of this franchise and how its always been.

so MH for the longest time was on capcoms in house engine that monster hunter team had used for nearly a decade.

now, they are on UNREAL engine. so world, rather than try to absolutely change the formula the franchise fans have gotten used to, they add some QoL changes for console players (which consoles have always been the primary target for MH games), and beef up the graphical fidelity from what it once was and enviroment interactivity as a focus.

but as far as hunter to monster interaction, movement, and camera controls, nothing has changed.

why?

because if i suddenly turned a decent FPS shooter into something more focused around jump scares and picking up lots of data logs about boring blah blah blah. i've killed my fanbase or atleast wounded their trust.

there is a reason MH world sold 10 million copies, hype, was not the primary reason.

Yeah, it would be like how Zelda: Breath of the Wild changed gameplay dramatically and thus was a huge flop... oh wait, it was the best-selling entry in the series and one of the most critically-acclaimed Zelda games since Ocarina of Time, which was itself a significant evolution in gameplay compared to the prior entries.

Something tells me that if you took MHW's core loop and you made control and movement feel more like a game made this century, it would still be wildly successful. MHW may be known for clunky movement, but that hardly seems to be the draw of the series. Do hardcore MHW fans actually look forward to having the agility and grace of an arthritic sloth sinking into a tar pit?

Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but the character movement is not its strong point.

Oh yeah, as for the OP, lock on does suck in this game. Instead, change your settings to the following:

When you are in game, go to Options. From Options, Select Camera, and go to the second page of Camera Options.

From there, change Camera Style to Target Camera. Also change Target Settings to Large Monsters Only.
So much this.

Many default settings in this game are garbage, and whoever decided on those settings should be fired.

Not lock on, but "change quick wheel to click stick to use" is probably the most important bit of advice I was given before I bought the game.

Lock on is a noob trap. Don't use it, ever.

Along with auto sheathing. Who thought that was a good idea?

I don't know of any long running Hunter that uses lock on. I think it's there just because it's somewhat a relic of past games. OR it could be an attempt to appeal to those used to locking on in games like Dark Souls

the lock on is useful with controllers

Never even occured to me that people use lock-on. Literally just need to move the mouse to follow your target of choice.. Free-look has never been easier to use than with a mouse.

There's nothing wrong with the controls or combat. If you go into this game expecting it to have cuhrayzee anime action like Devil May Cry or somethng then you aren't going to enjoy it.

and wtf dude don't use lock-on
Cardes Sep 14, 2018 @ 6:48pm
Can anybody not complain about ♥♥♥♥ for once and search it up to improve their gaming experience with the game? Not ALL the options are locked to default, just change it and stop complaining man

I set my camera speed to very high so my camera is like super senstive.
can rotate 180 in half second.

I'm new to this series with World and games like Nioh and Dark Souls hardwired locked combat into my brain. The moment I decided to not use it in this game, I became a lot better. The problem with using lock-on in Monster Hunter is that it goes against the meticulous nature of the game's combat. It's more about positioning your character juuuuust right and using the right attack to hit a specific part of the monster, especially if you're wanting to break something. In Dark Souls or Nioh, it doesn't matter where your strike lands; all hits count as equals. In Monster Hunter, treating the monster as one single health bar and just taking swings at it is a great way to make the game extremely dull and annoying. Yes, I know you can lock on to different parts, but that makes it difficult - at least for me - to position my character properly when the camera is trying to give me a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Lord of the Rings panoramic shot of the action.

The "clunky" controls kind of is the draw to the series. You have to be committed to every attack you make and position yourself accordingly to the monster because you can't as easily rush in, spam attacks and dodge away. That would just be mindless, button mashing gameplay.
