Also, Palico is just how a hunter's companion Felyne / Felyne hunter is called.
It makes sense that a majority of felynes in the New World are palicos given it's, well, a new world that's a safe haven for elder dragons. The felyne chefs are still considered as "felynes" (soup and oven felyne, etc.)for example. Closest to a civilian is the "Housekeeper", which I'm unsure if he is referred to as a "palico" in his dialogue.
